Forever’s Treasure to Every New Year Ever
What is ever's treasure
None of these silly New Year's resolutions

Forever’s Treasure (villanelle)

I turned my head toward hope and there she’d be
Pure magic were those moments we’d attain
Forever’s treasure bourn to memory
-
When world of shear confusion tortured me
False happiness was harder to maintain
I turned my head toward hope and there she’d be
-
And with each kiss a dream would be set free
A dream for some but lovers would explain
Forever’s treasure bourn to memory
-
And so we’d flow creating fantasy
Against all doubt one wonder would remain
I turned my head toward hope and there she’d be
-
This tick in time our island set at sea
Where happiness would taste the golden rain
Forever’s treasure bourn to memory
-
Again we’d set to yesterday I’d flee
Soft music in my heart plays sweet refrain
I turned my head toward hope and there she’d be
Forever’s treasure bourn to memory

Another villanelle, right? It is, until we pause to think what is forever's treasure. Is it a person, hope, maybe both or maybe something else. Another, out there, somewhere, villanelle.

One thing about our memories (mine,at least), they aren't entirely factual. We tend to add or take things away. I believe it has something to do with our hope for happiness or tranquility. Regardless if our past was good or bad or how factual it is, our past is us. I believe we are all special. Now, take one further step with me. Some of us may say, "I haven't done anything." There was once a blind man, selling pencils near my work. I'd see him almost everyday. I never talked to him nor bought a pencil from him. Who is to say how different I'd be without this memory in my life. I'm sure we can all relate to this image.(Maybe not a blind man, but something that just passed though our life.) We can take our hope for tomorrow, but if we stop to think about this: doesn't this join the past? Then ,in my situation, there was Arlene and my present wife, Amor, who was and is an important part of me. What is forever's treasure? "Must give us pause."

One more thing to add to this conundrum: Joy Of Living Feat. Nitza "We're All Beautiful"

Do any of these New Year's resolutions strike a chord

According to Brain Research Institute, the top 11 New Year's resolutions for 2016 are: Lose Weight, Getting Organized, Spend Less, Save More, Enjoy Life to the Fullest, Staying Fit and Healthy, Learn Something Exciting, Quit Smoking, Help Others in Their Dreams, Fall in Love and Spend More Time with Family. Now, if one or more of these sound familiar, we are not alone. On the other hand, if this video by Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla, of Smosh, rings some bells then we'd better seek some help. (The bell is out of order.)
While we're waiting for the repairman. here's "EVERY NEW YEARS EVER"

Hope is the thing with
feathers that perches in the
soul - and sings the tunes
without the words - and
never stops at all.
Emily Dickinson

Colors Of You to Chroma Crisis - A Splatoon Fight
Even the rainbow is wanting
Meanwhile a paint war breaks out

Colors Of You (free form poem)

What is it you crave for
What is it you starve for
What calls out your name
From the quiet of your life
-
Searching for reasons
Searching for meaning
Searching in longings
Which doubt has swept away
-
Under the carpets
Under the covers
Under our pillows
Which bear the end of dreams’ tears
-
Empty is the thunder which put them there
Constantly pounding to have its own way
Coloring the rainbows it wants you to view
Senseless
Pointless
-
While under the sunshine
A once upon a time
Is waiting starving craving
For one more moment in the sky
Waiting
Doubting
Lies
-
Look in the mirror
Look in the person
Look though dreamer’s eyes
At imagined come alive
-
Paint a world
Colors of you

This poem starts out (hopefully) somewhat unclear, Then we should get a sense of frustration. Finally an unexpected image is formed. I hope this poem took you on a similar ride.

It has been my experience, there are people out there who are frustrated with themselves for a myriad of reasons. They sense that they don't "fit in". There are some who are happy this not "fitting in". The "reality" we are given to deal with is: the forces that be make up rules that should be questioned. One example is beauty. At one point, in history, a little extra weight was considered attractive. Then, the leaner the better. Now, it seems the food industry says it might not be healthy to go without some fat. I don't know about you, but when I fell in love, I was blind. The fact is this is a very diverse world and does not follow the rules of man. One of our greatest gifts (in my opinion) is our individuality. The "world of me" doesn't always see, value, want or understand what makes us us. Therein lies a fuse of frustration. Now, I am not the right person to preach, but would our world be richer if we were free to see it through our own eyes. our own talents. our own uniqueness? I am not the right person to preach because I was lucky to have traits that some valued and developed.  But what about that other me? Lost. Lost.  Lost. For today, if we feel frustrated with ourselves, take a look in our mirror, And...

Is this a fitting song: R. Kelly "I Believe I Can Fly"

How about a game of splatoon

The first painters’ union was formed in London in 1502 and was called the Worshipful Company of Painters-Stainers. I highly doubt the boys of Andrew M Films are members of any kind of painters' union. It is obvious, though, they are very fond of the colors blue and orange. Fond enough to start a war. It is no surprise that they turn to the latest weapon to promote their favorite color.
What is surprising is the stranger at the end of the video. "Chroma Crisis - A Splatoon Fight"

Season Of The Tear to Late Night Booze Prank
What is the season of the tear we all must face
Hopefully nothing as trivial as the booze prank

Season Of The Tear (English sonnet)

What winds now bring the season of the tear
A world now strange echoes with bitter rain
My heart so longs for things I can’t explain
For purposes just seem to disappear
-
Adrift in swollen river filled with pain
My mind still grasp to memories so dear
These shores of hope now jagged and unclear
The truth of it grows harder to maintain
-
A dream perhaps with warnings of some dawn
Some lingering of shadows of the night
What winds so stings from things I didn’t try
-
Here at the edge of everything is gone
My yearnings search for seasons of the light
What winds will kiss forever my goodbye

Step back from this sonnet for a moment. What is it really talking about? In essence it is trying to arouse feelings; Feelings we can all relate to. Add to this, we have all lost something. Therein lies the cleverness of this style of expression. To paint in generalities, so others may join in a feeling. Also note: how the sonnet uses the words, the expression, the concept, "What winds".

I put this sonnet together reflecting on all that I have left behind in my life, There was, of course, my beautiful late wife, Arlene, the best job in the world, my youth (which I had the pleasure to live twice), my friends, the places, my heroes and the list goes on and on and on. What a life! Add to this: when I was an orator for the Masons, I used to recite these long speeches everyone had heard before. One of my mentors taught me to listen to the lives of others and to incorporate what I learned into my recitations. Not only did this make me a popular orator for the Masons, it gave me the gift of walking in other shoes (even if only a small part). I know, as a fact, we have all had seasons of the tear.

To go with the season of the tear: Michael Ortega."It's Hard To Say Goodbye"

Now let's bring a season of a tear to some New Year's Eve party goers

It is believed that the ancient Babylonians were the first to make the tradition of New Year's resolutions. Where did the tradition of toasting in the New Year with alcohol come from? Think about it. Does man really need an excuse to drink? Above Average productions got an idea from Jimmy Kimmel's Halloween show, where kids are told that all their candy was gone. Now, New Year's Eve partiers are told all their alcohol was gone.
How will these adults react? "Late Night Booze Prank"

My coffee gets increasingly better
the more I drink and the closer
I come to the bottom of the cup,
where all the sugar is.
I wonder if life is the same way
as we approach the end.

I’d Rather Be Like Him to Things I'd Rather Do Than Smoke
A road toward a positive
A road away from a negative

I’d Rather Be Like Him (poem)

I‘d rather be a lot like him
He always has some time to share
You need an ear he’s always there
And there’s his smile it’s never dim
-
A call for help he’s first to stand
His eyes see only hope and good
Not lost in things misunderstood
His every act so smooth and grand
-
To him they turn yes one and all
What wonders will come from his hat
And can they have a part of that
He smiles for them and dares not fall
-
So many people’s lives he changed
He showed them how to do the same
While they took pictures for their frame
For them his life was rearranged
-
Through all it’s him I’d rather be
Not here alone trapped with my thought
This lonely soul that’s bound too taut
The real live person they can’t see

A simple poem, right? A simple poem, with a complicated conclusion. An example of misleading a reader, Often,in life, people are lead to take things for granted. This poem tries to do the same thing. A simple poem, but after one reaches the conclusion, the poem calls for one more reading.

Is this poem about me? I have found: life is like a mirror. We tend to more readily recognize things which are part of our world. (Just part of my belief system.) In a way, this poem is like that old adage "the grass is always greener..." Have you ever had  in your life (or maybe its you) that person everyone admires, everyone wants to be like? Not to put limits on this poem: Sometimes we dream we were this person. Sometimes this person is held in such high esteem even they wish they could be them. Then there is the sadness and confusion, But aside from all, it is life's mirror telling us, it may be so.

To go with this concept I've selected:  Rue De Soleil "Dust"

Before we go too far, I was a long time smoker

Tobacco companies have been getting the negative credit for marketing its harmful product, Although the natives of the Americas have been smoking tobacco long before/ it is Sir Walter Raleigh who is credited for introducing this deadly product to Europe. Meanwhile, Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla of Smosh, have done it again. They have jumped on the non-smoking band wagon. Whether funny, ridiculous or not, it is attracting and getting the attention of viewers, hopefully to stop smoking or not taking up the habit. Rethinking what Andrew and Anthony are really saying with this video, is attracting a wondrous resurgence in this video.
Don't be surprised if this video and more like it start popping up in non-smoking campaigns. "21 THINGS I'D RATHER DO THAN SMOKE"

No star is lost once we have seen,
We always may be what we might have been.
Adelaide Proctor

Stars Wait Patiently to "Where They From"- minus music
The stars patiently wait for lovers
Missy Elliot can't wait for music so she performs her hit without it

Stars Wait Patiently (round)

The stars are waiting patiently for this
As heaven casts a hush upon the air
The purpose of a moment all rests there
As time extends a lifetime touching bliss
-
Anticipation’s music everywhere
Each dream it seems now blossoms near to see
If they can match or scent a fantasy
Or reach an instance of a passion’s flare
-
But for this wonder world ceases to be
As magic stirs up feelings for its due
And heartbeats savor splendors set askew
Just what will be the dawn’s reality
-
Yet in this ever focuses are true
And fate’s eternity cannot dismiss
The promised hope of one more treasured kiss
The stars are waiting patiently to view

What makes this a round? It looks like an Italian sonnet. It does have the same meter and a similar rhyme scheme. If we take a closer look at the rhyme scheme, we will see: ABBA BCCB CDDC DAAD. In effect, the sonnet's end leads back to the beginning, Therein lies the fun in this sonnet.

Arlene and I were very lucky. When we first moved in together, we got a palace in the sky, It was an an apartment, in upper Market Street, overlooking, eastern San Francisco. It was near enough to Twin Peaks to split the fog on foggy days, giving us a wonderful view. Our palace was a bit secluded, but perfect for young lovers. We eventually moved to the Richmond district, where there was (and is) plenty to do.  Arlene and I were quite active. There was dinning and dancing, theaters, movies and concerts. There was sights and special event. All of San Francisco laid out at our feet. We also travel ed throughout California, and occasionally took in this country. The stars opened up endless opportunities for Arlene and me. Then came our children. Our family was still quite active, but in a slightly different way.  Instead of young lovers, Arlene and I turned into parents introducing our children to the world. Then came the time when Peter and Robin wanted their own space. Here is where Arlene and I got real lucky. Fate put us in charge of parties for the Masons. We were very successful. Sometimes the band would stay over to play an extra songs for Arlene and me. The young lovers were back. The stars were waiting.

And what are stars for: Bliss "Kissing"

Where there stars shining when Missy Elliot's band didn't show up

Rapper Missy Elliot skipped two grades and then intentionally failed all of her classes so she could be reunited with her friends. Her latest hit "WTF (Where They From)", released November 12, 2015 has drawn a myriad of attention, not only for the song but for the video production. On a different note, House of Halo has gotten permission from Missy Elliot to release a version of "WTF" of their own.
The bad news is, House of Halo could not afford the band. "#WITHOUTMUSIC / WTF (Where They From) - Missy Elliot"

No Hope to Frisbee
One young man is caught in the game of love
Another young man is caught in the game of Frisbee

No Hope (Martin verse)

There was no hope not one at all
For this young lad to meet his fall
It happens to both brave and tall
And when it does he won’t recall
-
The foe a little princess fair
Who hides behind some comely stare
In hopes to catch him unaware
Before he senses danger there
-
There is no hope for him at all
Her lips have come into his stare
Now for all else he’s unaware
Ask him his name he won’t recall
-
It isn’t right it isn’t fair
Without a fight in love to fall
Was he too small and it too tall
Perhaps his mind just wasn’t there
-
And in the end he won’t recall
He’ll make up tales and make them tall
What was the reason for his fall
Another kiss it says it all

Martin verse uses five stanzas of four lines each. Though a meter is desirable, it is not essential. Once the eight words are selected they cannot be changed, though they may be added to (Examples wary: unwary, come: become, more: anymore).  The first two stanzas introduce the eight words. The third and fourth stanzas mix the words of the first two stanzas. The fifth stanza uses the words of the first stanza, in reverse order.

How many men can relate to this poem? Me? I might be the worst (or most magical) example. The fairytale of Arlene and Martin began with a legendary tear that fell on my right arm on te night we said goodbye. From that night's dream on, I fell hopelessly in love with Arlene. Imagine, here was a schoolgirl whose boyfriend would do anything for her. This was a fact she would often show off to her girlfriends. It didn't stop at love. Let's say Arlene wanted a new car, an expensive dress, more shoes and such. I hear "Marty", as only Arlene could express it (thank God), and the answer was, "Yes". Before you get on my case, some of you men surely know what I'm talking about. And you ladies, don't be coy. You know you have this power. Amor, my new wife, Was much older than that schoolgirl, when I started courting her. When she realized she wanted me, she turned on that "female whatever" and I was lost. Like Arlene, Amor's girlfriends had to put up with all the things I did for her. Consider this my confession, my warning, my Thank You.

Need I say more: The Everly Brothers "Til I Kissed You"

What does falling in love and Frisbee have in common

Walter Frederick Morrison, the inventor of the Frisbee, came up with the idea as a teenager throwing lard popcorn tin lids with his girlfriend. Now that we are Frisbee geniuses, can we catch one? Willie Sleight & Taylor Misiak (of Hotel For Dads) learned how to catch one and decided to take Frisbee to the next level.
Now, recapture one of the secrets of the Frisbee, lost since the 60's. "Hotel For Dads: Frisbee"
(What does falling in love and Frisbee have in common? - Absolutely nothing.)

Confusion’s Rains to Batman vs Santa Claus
A battle breaks out where there are no winners
A battle breaks out that can only come from Hollywood

Confusion’s Rains (English sonnet)

What was it they saw the other night
That brought the couple back to moments dear
From emptiness of yet another tear
As kisses faded to yet one more fight
-
A fog replaced night’s clarity with fear
Foreboding feelings took control of light
As couple’s fists prepared a plot ignite
Confusion’s rains would make the world unclear
-
Then suddenly all sight was painted red
And dim light flowed from shadows gone amiss
-
Teardrops mixed with blood someone had shed
As silent screams would fall into abyss
-
When morning came to grace familiar bed
It found the couple locked within a kiss

Finally, a normal, though a bit violent, English sonnet. Normal, except for the ending, which can be pictured in various ways.

Arlene and I left our palace in the sky and moved into an apartment near her parent. I hadn't discovered drugs yet nor was alcohol more than an occasional Friday night thing and even then it was very light. I can't remember what caused it. I only remember I got very angry and I struck Arlene. The memory of that blow still haunts me now. I never felt so ashamed. It would be easy to blame the abusive and confusing environment I grew up in. But leaving excuses behind, I never struck Arlene (or my children) again. As far as the poem, this was a transitional period for male and female relationships. We men couldn't and shouldn't go around subjugating women. Add to this the blooming of a promiscuous time in our history. There was another couple, who loved each other very much. They were friends of ours. Their love affair mirrored Arlene's and mine. They met around the same period as us. They got married the same year as us. They would spend some precious memories with Arlene and me. Who would have imagined, the police would take him away for beating her. Rumor has it, they parted with a kiss.

While we ponder how strange life can be, here's" Yirmama "Flowers We Are"

Why isn't Batman getting any presents this Christmas

More than half of all bats in the U.S. are endangered or in decline. Both loss of habitat and a mysterious illness called “White-Nose Syndrome” (which has affected over a million bats) are major reasons for the decline. What about Batman, one may wonder. Sources close to Hollywood say, he is about to come head to head with his greatest adversary. (And we all know how much we can believe what comes out of Hollywood.) So save your money now, as movie tickets prices are predicted to skyrocket (unless you have Netflix) for Batman vs Santa Claus.
We may have to wait until next year when Santa ventures out of his North Pole fortress (provided Batman is still on the naughty list). "Batman vs Santa Claus"

Family quarrels are bitter things.
They don't go according to any rules.
They're not like aches or wounds,
they're more like splits in the skin
that won't heal because
there's not enough material.
F. Scott Fitzgerald

Endless Dreams to Freddie's Vlog
A Fair maiden dreams
A madman dreams

Endless Dreams (Shakespearean sonnet)

She dreams across the riches flowers’ flow
Whose scent fulfills the promise of the sky
A gentle breeze to serenade her glow
A gentle mist protects this heaven’s sigh
-
Across the hearts of wonder what might be
She floats with hope as endless as her love
A tender moment sets her spirit free
A tender time which wishes are made of
-
Outside her peace a restless world awaits
Its Joys and pain defy the wise away
A challenge sent to try a lover’s traits
A challenge for her talents to display
-
Sleep on fair princess greet the dawn anew
Sleep on tomorrow waits a dream come true

A Shakespearean sonnet with a twist. Each stanza and the rhyming couplet end with an ostinato of repeating words. This may be obvious. What may not be so obvious is the nature of these repeated words. The firdt two stanzas have peaceful ostinstos which change in the conflict stanza and resolve with the rhyming couplet.

Now, I can go on about myself. Egotist that I am. But instead, let me share a tale about my present wife, Amor. She works very hard to support her family. From out of nowhere comes this nut to court her. They fall in love and they marry. Now to the point of this rant and a connection to the sonnet. Amor is very beautiful, in more ways than one. The nut she married told her that she might make more money as a healthcare provider if she got a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). I'll never forget when Amor took her entry test. I was in a van with her brother-in-law. Amor's test result was so bad, we had to laugh. Imagine a test result that bad. But I believed in Amor. We studied hard, so she could retake the test. She just barely passed on her second attempt. Amor attributes it to luck. She worked very hard and earned hr CNA, with an impressive test score. Not only that, but her school and a number of her classmates credit her for helping others, who would have quit, earn their CNA's also. Armed with her CNA and her "can do" spirit (not to mention her beauty) Amor dreams to face her tomorrows.

Ride the Tide to Drug Deal In Movie Titles
Words open door to a life of meaning
Words borrowed make up a drug deal

Ride the Tide (poem)

Ride the tide with me awhile I‘ll share with you a trip
Our ticket only cost a smile to take one daring dip
Memories beyond the hip are waiting for to be made
Together cares and worries slip awash in our parade
-
Take these hands afraid to trade the moments we will make
Among the stars that never fade is where we’ll make our stake
We will bask upon a lake of passion and desire
And all life’s joys for us to rake will set our lake on fire
-
Tell me what we two require to make a dream come true
We will not trot on gentle sire not born to this we two
When we decide to say ado that’s when their parties end
While we on blazing steeds race to imagination’s trend
-
You and I weren’t meant to bend or blend in fashion’s wall
Come ride the tide with me my friend this trip for one and all
Cast aside the might befall we now control the style
We are the wave that they’ll recall two legends for their file

At first glance, this appears like a simple poem of a lover inviting his desire to partake with him more of life. We could leave things at that and everyone walks away a bit richer. On closer examination, though, we notice a bit of Word Wizardry at play. For example: " ride the tide". Again in the first stanza: trip, dip and hip all rhyme. A bit complicated, but as I said, "We could leave things at that and everyone walks away a bit richer."

I have to give it to Arlene and my present wife, Amor. I was a bit on the wild side. I think that's what garnered me so many friends. Friends who made living with me a bit easier. What am I talking about, you are surely wondering. Well, before I became a photographer, I was a metaphysical lecturer, for the Messengers Of Light. Arlene not only had to be the group's sound-person, but put up with a vast array of spiritualists, from palm readers to bible specialists, who frequented the house. There were a lot of parties and personal appearances. Arlene put up with all of it. Now, we skip ahead to a more mature Martin, who was a mover and shaker with the Bay Area Masons. Poor Amor. Everyone wanted to meet her (NOW!). A lifestyle, I'm sure, she wasn't ready for. Then there were the sports (playing as well as watching), the dancing, the weekend "trips", let's try something new, we've been invited to.., I have tickets to..., and on and on it goes. What a life we lived. My present condition is less than favorable, but it does give me a chance to catch up to my own life.

Here, for our enjoyment is:Samantha James "Life Is Waiting"

We've heard "Play on words", what about "Video Based On Words"

According to The Guardian, the May 20,2015 version of Collins Official Scrabble Words contains 256,500 words. We should be asking: How many movies are there. More specifically, how many movie titles are there? Why, one might ask. The folks at Fine Brothers Entertainment created a clever video were the only dialog is the titles of movies. It took 160 movies to accomplish their goal, but they did it.
Now, the next question is: How many of these movies have you seen. "DRUG DEAL IN 160 MOVIE TITLES!"

She Dreams to The Other Christmas Gift
A very special person dreams
There is one gift which is timeless

She Dreams (English sonnet)

She dreams beyond all purpose and all time
She dreams of springs the promises of hope
She dreams of opportunities to climb
Sleep on fair lady on your watchful slope
-
She dreams were wonders never have to end
She dreams of scents were minds are wont to play
She dreams of scars which Joy will quickly mend
Sleep on sweet maiden set some cares astray
-
The morning sun will bring the world its due
As we who live must meet our destiny
Sleep on oh woman on your satin shore
-
She dreams of rainbow’s grace of sacred hue
She dreams of someone dancing happily
Sleep on my mother watch how high I soar

Another variation of an English sonnet. We set up an ostinato of "She dreams" and we wonder, who is this lady. On the first triplet we break from the pattern. This is like the chorus of a song, but still the "Sleep on" remains to tie the verse together, to tease us, to be a the pathway to a surprising answer. The osinato returns on the final triplet, with the answer we didn't expect. If the sonnet had the desired effect, we should be rethinking that special person in our life.

I put this sonnet together with my mom in mind. Annamarie was an interesting person. She was brought up in Hitler's Germany. She was an example of how powerful brainwashing can be. She was assigned to be a factory worker for the Nazi war machine and continued there under the Allie regime. When I came to America, at the age of 6, I thought this person was kidnapping from my mother. My grandmother raised me. I rarely saw my mom. Her first husband was abusive. As he beat me, I can only imagine what he did to her. Her second husband was a successful alcoholic.Alcohol didn't do him in. It was the blind madness that took him if anyone called him gay. His last fight would be with a gang, who called him gay, and beat him so badly he died in a mental institution. My mother favored my brother over me. A fact that bothered me more than any of her faults. I could go on for pages describing my mother. I never loved my mom, but I respected her. When she left me for the third time and the Internal Revenue Service was searching for her, I began appreciating what a life this person lived. How strange this world must be to her. Think about it... A world asunder, an abusive husband, a mad alcoholic... Still she dreams to make some sense of something stolen.
We can't imagine a mother's dreams when her nature tells her one thing and her situation has done this to her. I respect the one who gave me birth. "She dreams of rainbow's grace..." My mom died, and I alone had the honor of burying her.

Let's turn to this to take us a bit further: Ainara "Mother"

And now a tale from the land of awe

Did you know Denzel Washington, Jennifer Lopez, Adam Sandler, Cuba Gooding Jr.,Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Sugar Ray Leonard ang Usher were all members of Boys and Girls Clubs of America? 83% of Metro Atlanta Boys and Girls Club come from low-income families. Many families can't even afford Christmas tree or the big family meals which help to celebrate the holidays. It is suspected that some of the kids in this video may again see the passing of Christmas without a girt. The kids were asked what gift they wanted. They were asked what gift their family wanted. They were then asked to choose only one.
What do we think happened? "The Other Christmas Gift"

The Window to the Truck Flipper vs the Bus Puncher
One lady stares through her window toward a future
One lady stares through her window to reclaim something lost

The Window (Shakespearean sonnet)

She stares into the window of her world
Beyond the reasons which make up her day
The scent of flowers dreaming was unfurled
Upon her wings what wonder would betray
-
She searched the meadows of her hopeful heart
Through memories of music in the air
And every feeling seemed to play its part
To make sure every whim she wished was there
-
And through her window is no need at all
She’s free to dance and chance this timeless space
No past or future here to stop her fall
For she is found and lost in lover’s face
-
Oh window teat her warm and treat her kind
That through your view some happiness she’ll find

This sonnet depends heavily upon metaphor. It has no real resolution. It introduces us to a person and tries to develops some sort of feeling toward her. Then, as we depart, comes the pay-off (the feeling we are left with).

When I worked at Chevron, there was this lady, Beth. I used enjoy having lunch with her and the occasional break times together. That was the extent of our relationship , except for the occasional cakes and cookies. Beth was a great cook. It was Beth who made me a blood donor for he Red Cross. She did it by challenging my manhood. So to prove that I was a real man, I became a blood donor. I think Beth liked our time together because I was a good listener. It was easy. Beth had a great voice and compelling insights into her life.  Beth had a lot of troubles meeting men. She was very unhappy with her life, even though she had a good job. (She made more money than me.) I think both Beth and I felt we had something special going for us that was too important to risk by taking it to the next level. One day Beth was more excited than I had ever seen her. She had been accepted as a crewman in an oil tanker. It was the last week I would be seeing Beth. Years later, Chevron Shipping wanted me to make their year's safety magazines into a book. I ran across a picture of Beth with her shipmates. She seemed happier than I had ever seen her.

Are we ready for another window into more surprises

One of the reasons marijuana is illegal today is not because it is a drug, but rather because cotton growers in the 30's lobbied against hemp farmers. They saw marijana as competition. What does this have to do with a truck flipper? What's a truck flipper? Next you'll tell me you've never heard of Rocket Jump Productions or Freddie Wong. The spin-off to Rocket Jump The Show? Mary had a little lamb? Strawberry jello with marshmallow topping.
Thoroughly confused? I'm not sure if this Rocket Jump video will help. But, it is enjoyable "Truck Flipper v Bus Puncher"

Happiness often sneaks in
through a door you didn't
know you left open.
John Barrymore

The Gift to Wrapping The Perfect Present
What does one suppose my greatest gift
How does one wrap the present of laughter

The Gift (English sonnet)

So good to see you once again my friend
I can’t recall when last I saw your smile
So few can share the flare within your style
So few are left on whom one can depend
-
I treasure all the gifts you sent my way
Those rays of hope which sing out from our past
So few like you who fashioned ones which last
So few are left to see your last display
-
So few the eyes which still let wonder in
To cast their cloak once more across the floor
-
So few the hearts which take the time to spin
The wonders which a lover oft dreams for
-
And chances for new dances to begin
So few are left to stay here anymore

Another example of an English sonnet variant. In exchange for the variant is the Word Wizardry. There is the ostinato of "So few" which builds to "So few are left". This was done not only for cleverness but for dramatic effect.

So what do I consider my greatest gifts? The friends I had along the way. My drug days are a good example of the changes I went through. For five years, I was on drugs from morning till night. When I stopped, I stopped completely. I never used drugs again. Along with the drugs, I lost all the friends of that lifestyle. I went through many of these changes. Sure, there were some friends who made the "cross-overs" with me. I still remember my first friend and some of the times we spent playing, Mark. I lost him when I entered junior high school. Then there is my friend, Mike, who has been with  me since the 8th grade. I was lucky to attract a lot of friends. There were many benefits but there was also the occasional down sides. Now I enter the most, I think, challenging stage of life, old age. I liken it to the end of a play, were someone is removing the set. So much of what I knew is gone. So many of the people I knew are gone. So many days and ways I enjoyed are gone. Remember when I said I was lucky to attract a lot of friends? Every now and again I encounter one of these friends from the past. It has always been a wonder to see the one they are now. It has always been a thrill to relive their version of our past. It has always brought me a warmth to know, to feel someone who was part of my life, had similar feelings as me. When the poem say, "so few"... But those few!

So it only makes sense this is this edition's song:
Sandro Scuoppo "That's What Friends Are For" (by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager)

Now friends aren't the kind of gift one can exactly wrap, but...

What we know as wrapping tape was developed in the 1930's in St. Paul, Minnesota by Richard Drew. Now that we know that, let's move on to wrapping presents. Recalling Times to Christmas with Will Ferrell
On one side of a coin is the sadness lost to time
On the other side of the coin is the excitement of Christmas with a star

Recalling Times (Martin verse)

Recalling times which were no longer there
Somehow I let them vanish into air
Through windows of my memories I stare
With stream of tears of missing her I bear
-
Her light would be the blessing of the morn
Each heartbeat thoughts of kisses would be born
The hope of ever after she’d adorn
And to this gift of heaven I was sworn
-
Each dream which fashioned wonder saw us there
We were the mist of lovers to be born
Ours was the flame which passion would adorn
The season’s winds enchantments we would bear
-
But then one cruel and dismal distant morn
A bitter taste of nothing filled the air
The shadow of her absence caught my stare
My cold and empty future was now sworn
-
And so was born the loneliness I bear
As through my murky window I now stare
With memories much thinner than the air
Recalling times which were not really there

Another Martin verse. If you are interested in learning more about this form of poetry, go to an article I wrote at https://suite.io/martin-kloess/6fyr2z2. If you write a Martin verse, let me know and I will direct people to its location.

Sometimes a poem awakens other memories. As a child, Christmas wasn't that much to me. My mother and her husband kind of down-played it. As a result, it is difficult for me to accept gifts. It wasn't till I moved with in with Arlene that Christmas came alive, though my ability to receive gifts handicaps me even now. After Peter was born, we started a Kloess family tradition, where people could stop by the house to enjoy fancy snacks. Arlene and I would gather horderves style foods, cakes, cookies and such. We had a vast assortment of drinks, but as for alcohol there was nothing stronger than wine and champagne. Anyone could stop-by. The only unwritten rule was, don't bring presents, though it was alright to bring food and drinks. These parties were highly successful and got bigger and bigger. People would come and go all day. For many, Christmas included stopping by at the Kloess house. When Arlene died, so did the tradition. After a year, my friends encouraged me to bring the celebration back. When I met Amor, I decided to listen to them. The first return of Christmas went okay and was quite amazing to Amor, who had never seen anything quite like it. The second year though... I had been throwing this party for years. Countless people came in and left my house. No one had ever stolen from me. No one until that day. A number of presents for my friends and family came-up missing. What was worse, only a friend and family members had entered my house when the theft was discovered. Christmas was wrecked. I never had the party again.

Now let's flip the coin and enjoy a laugh or two

Elves originally come from Norse mythology. They were thought to be divine or semidivine beings with magical powers. No one should know more about elves than Will Ferrell, who played one in his Oscar overlooked movie "Elf". Will was hanging out with Billy on the Street (Bill Eichner) on the sidewalks of New York, giving people a whopping one dollar for correctly answering a movie question.
Point? No, really take your forefinger and point. Then watch:: "Billy on the Street - Christmas with Will Ferrell"

Reason Crying In The Night to Spatula Battle
Listen and we may hear it crying in the night
Listen and we may hear the tale of the mighty spatula battle

Reason Crying In The Night (villanelle)

Another reason crying in the night
Another scent of tears now fills the air
Because no care was there to set it right
-
Somewhere a hand is reaching out of sight
From unknown oceans of its own despair
Another reason crying in the night
-
Its cries for help are met by words polite
An emptiness beyond what it could bear
Because no care was there to set it right
-
It searched the darkness hoping for some light
When something in its madness caught its stare
Another reason crying in the night
-
They put some fleeting meaning to their plight
And dreamed an end to all of its affair
Because no care was there to set it right
-
And in their spawn came flames of woe so bright
With unknown oceans other souls now share
Another reason crying in the night
Because no care was there to set it right

This is a villanelle. To find out more about them or to write one yourself go here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villanelle. Other than trying to keep the poem's problem open, to give the reader avenues to relate, I have followed the villanelle form.

(The poem is not limited to charity) I got my start in charity at Chevron Oil. It was surprising to me the extent of charity work this oil company was involved in. But let me just talk about me and my view of the world. I was asked to help, and given time, the United Way of the Bay Area. I was a part of a team assigned to raise funds (in addition to the company's donation). I was just starting out in the world of charity and found my efforts quite disappointing. It seemed, to me, that so many needed help and there were so few who cared (hence the villanelle). I was a good volunteer and asked to come back. Being an egotist, even back then, and so few volunteers, not only did I agree to help, I went after other volunteer efforts. Now here is where the story and life turns weird. The more I got involved in volunteer work, the more I ran into others who volunteered. It seems it was me who didn't see; Who couldn't see. There were people, by the score, helping, caring, serving long before me. As I changed I saw the world in a different way. Lesson?

To go with the villanelle: ├ôlafur Arnalds "Only The Winds"

A spatula can be a helpful kitchen aid or it can be a...

Remember back in 1972 when the movie "Fist of fury" and Bruce Lee was unleashed on the world? Legend has it that it was these two who would be the boom the interest of the martial arts. Legend also has it that the nunchaku stick, Bruce Lee's weapon of choice, was originally supposed to be the much nore dangerous and frightening spatula. But because of the terror caused on the movie set the director decided to scale back to the nunchaku. To demonstrate the fear of this weapon, Beat Down Boogie have made a video re-enacting a scene from "Fist of Fury" using the original weapon.
WARNING - Not for the faint of heart. "SPATULA BATTLE!"

Here In This Time to Christmas with a Baby
A lovers searching finds his answers in this time
Timeless as that moment of the first Christmas with baby

Here In This Time (lyrical poem)

What can I add to make complete
What do I have that can compete
To worlds which surely calls her sweet
And lays their gifts about her feet
-
What can I add to all she’s heard
To capture feelings in a word
Of yet another soul she stirred
And for this dream has life deferred
-
For here in this time this is my chance
To take her hand and cast my stance
And for this while dreams to enhance
Here in this time
Here in this time
-
What can I add to endless bliss
What gesture will she not dismiss
Perhaps a dream waits for a kiss
One simple chance to end my abyss
-
What can I add she came my way
Here was the door fated display
My offered hand she didn’t stray
Why this occurred no one could say
-
For here in this time this was our chance
She took my hand to cast a stance
And for this while dreams did enhance
Here in this time
Here in this time

Another bunch of words waiting for a song. If there are any songwriters out there who need lyrics, help yourself. The only charge I ask is a free copy of the song. If one checks, I have kept the beats really tight.

Arlene had been dead for four years. I was heavily involved with San Francisco's Masonic Youth. I was not dating or seeing any women. The fraternity thought that it might look better, I working with a bunch of teenagers and all, if I considered being seen with a woman. This is when and why I began courting Amor, my current wife. She had a lot of problems, yet she was funny and cute beyond any description. When I was with Amor, I had no problems. which helped me solve some of her's. Imagine, a person to chase away all your problems. Wouldn't you fall in love? After a year's courtship, we got married. Everyone was happy for me. Who knew what laid ahead. But for Amor's and my three year gift. we danced and rejoiced in our "here and now".

To carry us along" The Lettermen "Precious and Few/Cherish"

How about a dose of memories

The Washington Post reports we will be enjoying a full moon this Christmas. The first one we had since 1977. The moon was full on December 25, 1776. That's right, when Washington crossed the Delaware. Ah memories. Like the baby's first Christmas. Thad and Esther Anderson (Story of This Life) are back on the viral video list with their compilation of their daughter, Ellia's first Christmas. This video was originally posted a year ago. It is so heartwarming that it is making a resurgence.
What I found enjoyable about this video is that it took me to my kids' first Christmas, even though it didn't happen exactly like this. "Christmas with a Baby"
