What Were The Words to Awkward Conversation

Lovers search for the words that began a fantasy

A friend searches for a point to pointless words

What Were The Words (modern sonnet)

What were the words which unlocked heaven’s door
And freed a heart such splendors to explore
A dream a wish a fantasy or more
Within a moment words made meaning soar
-
You always were the twinkle in my eye
The reason all enjoyment would apply
Our feelings were the rainbows in the sky
Amid our fancies time stood still to sigh
-
What was that mist I never felt before
That whisper to the wings I then came by
Of things I thought I knew before set high
Of all which one could hope for blessed my shore
-
What words would memories come to adore
Enchantment only your lips could let fly

(Welcome to the world of the Modern Sonnet. What is a modern sonnet? I wish I could tell you. I'm not a poetry teacher. I'm from the school that considers sonnets a song. Modern sonnets don't have to rhyme or follow the traditional beat pattern. For the poetic mind, there may be even more to explore. For me and the "song school"... I'm Listening. In my example: In my journey in love, I started with one rhyme in the first quatrain. I switched to a new rhyme in the second quatrain. The two are combined in the "conflict" quatrain. In the couplet the two rhymes are merged. Just like the lovers. - What was amazing about Arlene and Martin was, we were different enough to enjoy an individual life, but had enough in common to grow together. Some things we shared in common allowed us to interact without the need for words. Our individuality allowed us to grow and bring so much more to the partnership. We grew as a couple and as Arlene and Martin. Two rhymes came together and merged.)

Since we are exploring new ideas, let me introduce you to: Omar Akram "Passage Into Midnight"

From love to the pointless

The verb form of the word “run” has been calculated to have almost 650 different meanings. One word. Take this group of friends, They started off discussing batman. Then one of them turns to using one word to describe one of the friends. This turns awkward as he is called out to explain himself.
Hey... wait a minute. The two main characters look like Key and Peele, of Comedy Central. You don't think this whole thing was run just to make us laugh? "Key & Peele - Awkward Conversation"

Light Of The Moon to Fantastic High School Baseball Player

Legendary lovers take their place in the moonlight

Legendary High school batter takes his place in our hearts

Light Of The Moon (repeating line poem)

They kissed in the light of the moon
‘neath heavens with stars richly strewn
Two lovers whose hearts were attune
To passions which made lovers swoon
In moments which passed far too soon
-
Yet there in the magic of night
They kissed in the light of the moon
Enhanced by its glorious sight
A blend to both Joy and delight
What wonder and dreams they’d ignite
-
The people who live by the day
Would greet one another and say
They kissed in the light of the moon
As they let their life slip away
Pursuing their final dismay
-
So they plotted end to affair
An offense the whole town would share
They knew that their targets were there
They kissed in the light of the moon
This light which would guide town to pair
-
But as the dark moment drew nigh
The lovers did not happen by
And people would soon find out why
As they turned their gaze toward the sky
They kissed in the light of the moon

(Here is another story poem. The first line is repeated and moves down as the story progresses and comes to its conclusion. I left the ending somewhat open so that the reader may paint the final picture. - Let me share one night of magic. During the Disco days, one of Arlene and my favorite clubs was Tingles. We liked to go on off nights, because the club was less crowded and Tingles would hold specials to attract costumers those nights. Our party showed up one night and Tingles (dance club) was throwing a backgammon tournament. I don't consider myself good, but I know how to play backgammon, so I figured I'd try my luck. I soon found, that was an understatement. The dice really went my way. My luck was so amazing everyone wanted ti play me. Gambling on these games was not permitted, but what goes on "under the table"... I was racking in the bucks as the dice continued to amaze. When the night was over and we went through the doors to go home, I realized, I was the biggest loser. I hadn't danced with Arlene once that night. I had let my luck, greed and ego blind me from what was really important.)

With that told, let'enjoy: Mecano "Hijo de la Luna"

From Tingles to the diamond

Baseball was introduced to Japan in 1872 by Horace Wilson. Let's skip ahead to the 21st century and Ageo Municipality Stadium, where Japan's high school baseball tournament is being held. Let's focus on one player for Namekawa General Baba Yuji. A player who never strikes out. A player who has his own band. A player whose presence a bat is nothing less than mind blowing. A player who has attracted over 9 million views on YouTube.
Witness the next generation of baseball. "滑川総合 馬場優治選手(3年夏)/ Fantastic Highschool BB Player 150723"
(A player who is thrown out on 1st base.)

The Man Who Did Nothing At All to Jake Johnson Does Parkour

One man's life finds purpose in a celebration

One man's life finds purposelessness in laughter

The Man Who Did Nothing At All (free form poem)

I listened to him
Holding his hand
As the hours passed to his tears
And he closed his eyes for the last time
The man who did nothing at all
-
How is it likely
How could it happen
To have lived one’s whole life
Just to endure such meaningless pain
The man who did nothing at all
-
I searched for clues
Something left hidden
Scouring places and traces
For something which never existed
The man who did nothing at all
-
I called on my friends
Life to explore
Who called upon others
To lighten this growing shadow
The man who did nothing at all
-
I listened to them
Holding to hope
Behind every friendly smile
Laid bitterness of the sad truth
The man who did nothing at all
-
So we laid a plan
A special event
Where we feasted with memories
Then raised our glasses and toasted
The man who did nothing at all

(The interesting thing about this story/poem is the last line. Even as I was writing this, the same words changed in meaning and weight. In the end, "The man who did nothing at all " means so much more. - With the masons, one of my fortes was oration, especially the funeral. From 1999 to 2010 I performed 147 masonic funerals. This poem was inspired by one of those funerals. I did one funeral and no one showed up, except my usuals. There were no family members or friends. It bothered me so much that, with the help of some highly qualified brothers, I investigated this man. He wasn't married, didn't have any kids, and hadn't attended Lodge for years. He spent his last years in a hospital and it was his will that specified that he wanted a masonic funeral. We couldn't find any evidence that the man did anything, He did even join any military branch. I brought the whole matter up at a Lodge meeting. It was decided that a special affair be organized in the man's honor. At the party in his honor, we all raised our glasses, as the Master gave the final toast. Here was a man who (supposedly) did nothing at all, brought people together to celebrate a life. The entire symbolism is: no one who lives out their life does nothing at all.)

To leave the whole matter to your consideration, here's: Ecclesiastes "Meaningless"

Well, I think we could use a laugh

Parkour is a training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle course training. A lot like the ones I use when my wife wants me to do chores. For those unfamiliar with Jake Johnson, he is an actor and comedian, best known for playing Nick Miller in the Fox comedy series "New Girl". Jake thinks he is out of shape. After seeings some parkour on his favorite exorcise device (the television), he decides to give parkour a try. He gets his friend to capture the moment when his mind conquers matter. (Or something like that.)

The Spring Of What Must Be to When We Have Kids

A strange tale of what must be for two young lovers

A familiar tale of what must be for new expecting parents

The Spring Of What Must Be (fabled verse)

He took his lover by the hand
To view the future fate had planned
To peer into their destiny
Tomorrows surely must be grand
Therein the spring of what must be
-
A legend lived from days of old
Of waters which the future told
For all who dared to set chance free
This mystery the woods still hold
The whispered spring of what must be
-
His lady asked what’s there to know
That we won’t learn as love will grow
So let us dream of fortune’s key
And with a kiss she said let’s go
Away from spring of what must be
-
Sad wasted words he pressed ahead
He couldn’t hear truth heart had shed
Strange quest was all his mind could see
That called him there to kneel at bed
To gaze in spring of what must be
-
And there he saw their days and night
Each sorrow’s tear each mournful plight
Behind each Joy sore misery
And in the end was one lost light
Foretold by spring of what must be
-
What did you see his love did say
And with a kiss turned her away
He told her tales of warmth and glee
For her sweet smile he’ll not betray
He’ll be her spring of what must be

(This is my rendition of a story poem. I use "Spring" as refreshing water and/or a beginning and/or the kindling of love as well as a season. I try to keep my poems short, hoping that it will make readers wanting more and in hopes that imaginations will fill in what I have left out. - When Arlene and I first moved in together, it seemed that Love did all the housework. I can't recall who was doing the dishes or cleaning our apartment, at that time. It wasn't until I was recording my music, that my lead guitarist pointed out that dishes hadn't been done for who knows how long and that ants had taken over my pantry. Being a typical man, dishes (and the like) were Arlene's job. My attitude made our arguments flair. We went out one night to a formal affair. I took notice of Arlene's gown. Arlene was a fantastic seamstress. In that gown I saw we all have special gifts. Maybe if we developed what we did best. There were things that would make us stumble. but Arlene and I were an impressive team and were good at dusting each other off. Oh yes, if you were wondering, I was much better at doing dishes and cleaning the house.)

As for the spring, here's: Secret Garden "Children of the River"

Now that relationship solve its time to think about a baby

According to Google, new and expecting parents do at least twice as many searches as non-parents do (and that's not just for names). If there was any doubt tat we humans are alike, look at new and expectant parents. Esther Anderson (of Story of This Life) is at it again. Esther is a creative mind, who currently works out of Tampa,  Florida. She, her husband, Thad, with a little help from their daughter, Ellia, have put together a look forward compilation, I;m sure, most of us can relate to.
Maybe Esther didn't get it exactly right, but she did get it exactly cute. "When We Have Kids"

Drifting In A Memory to Ballin' Out Of Control

A couple make a memory for ever

A ball makes a memory for its owner

Drifting In A Memory (repeating lines poem)

Sipping in what used to be
Past has come to comfort me
Whispering a melody
Through a window none can see
Promising to set me free
Drifting in a memory
-
Sitting in a lonely room
Laughter now replaced by gloom
Hope is now a distant bloom
Sacred scent of lost perfume
Sipping in what used to be
Drifting in a memory
-
Once again I feel her kiss
Once was me contained in this
My soul forever lost in bliss
And for this all else dismiss
Past has come to comfort me
Drifting in a memory
-
Once again I hold her tight
Gazing into distant light
Tomorrow’s dreams held in sight
And my heart she did incite
Whispering a melody
Drifting in a memory
-
Then came the time to say goodbye
Yet there was no need to cry
Hand in hand I soon found why
As together we did fly
Through a window none can see
Drifting in a memory

(In this poem I used the last two lines of each stanza to maintain the memory. I tried to set a strong beat pattern in the first four stanzas. The conflict and resolution comes in the last stanza. The beat deteriorates. A question is raised. The memory returns. Also note: the use of present tense "can". - Arlene and I were of the Disco generation. Nights would see us and our entourage at our favorite clubs. Yes, Arlene and I would sometimes venture out on our own, but most of the time time we were with members of a dance troupe and a very popular hair salon. It was a spectacular time. Before Disco began to decay, we all went our own way, through the windows of our memories. In 1996, I was put in charge of my Lodge's parties. Guess who returned, to set many more memories drifting. Just a hope that some things really don't die)

Here's a great video for all of this. I hope you enjoy it.
Veronika Voss "Memories Are Made Of This"

From two lovers to one ball

(but not your average ball)

Golf the only sport (so far) played on the moon (on February 6, 1971). Astronaut Alan Shepard hit the famous golf ball. Not quite as famous, is a ball bought and set in motion by the members of Corridor Digital. Corridor Digital  is a Los Angeles based digital company consisting of Sam Gorski, Niko Pueringer, Jake Watson and Wren. The team enjoys creating videos that toy with viewers' imagination. We've all seen what happens to balls when they are thrown, hit, kicked, bounced, rolled, tossed, et cetera. But niw, we get the ball's view point.
So sit back and follow the bouncing ball. "Ballin' Out Of Control"

The Golden Stairs to Magicians Hijack Sky News

For one luck is ending as he faces the unknown

For two luck has started as they face the unknown

The Golden Stairs (Italian sonnet)

Before him life had spread its golden stairs
A young man with the whole world on his side
Success rewarded each small thing he tried
So in this pride their calling he repairs
-
He climbed to meet their challenges with ease
As dreams he cast would carpet steps he tread
And she was there to light the way ahead
His memories what pinnacles would seize
-
But with his age the stairs began to change
The gold had lost its luster off somewhere
His luck was leaving holes for harsh despair
He didn’t know this person now so strange
-
And here his pain and time would steal his smile
With so much past and vast unknown to go
From hidden goal uncertainties now flow
He thought it best to sit down for awhile

(For this Italian sonnet I've used  the less traditional ABBA rhyme pattern. One challenge in using a sonnet to encapsulate a life is the limited lines. The Italian form does give two extra chances. - This sonnet is basically a reflection of me. My life has been pretty remarkable. I won't say it was all easy, but I feel the golden stairs were set at my feet. I never became wealthy, but I had Arlene at my side and scores of faithful believers to support a dream. Teachers, schools, a company, organisations and a city have enjoyed my climb (bumbling as it sometimes was). I have lived and died many times. I even had the opportunity to be young again. But I am human. One day I woke up in the body of an old man. To make matters even stranger, life dealt me a card not found in normal decks. (No big surprise.) So I've gotten up to meet the unknown.)

To go with this theme, let's enjoy: Glen Campbell "Both Sides Now"

Luck can be magic

A pearl is not a diamond, but it is considered a lucky gemstone. Do you see a problem in that? While I have you confused, let me tell you about Young and Strange.  Richard Young and Sam Strange are British illusionists who make their homes in Oxnard, United Kingdom. The duo are both members of The Magic Circle and were recently promoted to become Associate Members of The Inner Magic Circle. This is the highest qualification achievable through performance examination. Somehow and amazingly, Young and Strange were able to perform one of their illusions as reporter Ashish Joshi, of Sky News, was reporting about NHS (National Health Service) reforms from outside the Houses of Parliament. Sky News aired the report before anyone noticed the goings-on in the background. Needless to say, as soon as the phone calls began, the video went wildly viral.
In itself a great illusion. "MUST SEE! Magicians Young & Strange Hijack Sky News!"
(Sorry to inform you, but this illusion was exposed and the views went wilder.)
