What Beats In My Mind to Haven't You Done Well

A person wonders through the changes life has put him through

Three friends wonder through the changes lunch has put them through

What Beats In My Mind (modern sonnet)

What beats inside the forest of my mind
A drop of something that won’t let me go
A shadow hid in world I’ve come to know
This breath forgotten which was left behind
-
I feel its whisper deep inside my flow
So deep within the mask I have refined
This hint beyond the life I have designed
What is the song which yearns its morning so
-
Have I not lived each moment as I should
And made the most of person I became
-
My changes were not often understood
I drifted off and ego was to blame
-
And now my mind surrounded by dark wood
Must wonder of a song which once was me

(Most poets stick to the familiar Shakespearean sonnet. As fans have seen, I venture out to the other popular forms. Here is an example of  modern sonnet. At first it looks like an English sonnet. But to carry the message, the last line doesn't rhyme. - I'm sure I'm not alone in this. In a lot of ways this poem is an affirmation. I have gone through a lot off changes in my life. It is like I was these different people. Gone is the drug addict. Gone is the spiritual leader. Gone is the outdoor explorer. Gone, gone, gone; All those other Martins are gone. I'll never forget what my best man, Mario, said to Arlene, when he returned to see me after many years of being away. "He has really changed." (It would be the last time I see Mario.) Late.in the silence of my transitioning, voices echo through my mind. I imagine these echoes are voices of me, left behind. As I grew older, the luck I had experienced in life began to weigh on me. I felt, more and more, I should be using my talents to help others. Now, in the sight of yet another new adventure, like the poem, "my mind is surrounded by dark wood." But I am not alone.)

If that wasn't mind boggling enough, here's: Bliss and Melancholia "Quiet Letter"

From a mind wonderer to lunch wonderers

The most expensive restaurant in the world is Kitcho, in Japan,  run by award-winning chef Kunio Tokuoka,, were a meal will set you back at least $600 per person. Hardly Kitchio, Broden Kelly, Zachary Ruane and Mark Samual Bonanno. of Aunty Donna, have finished their meal and decided to split the check. Aunty Donna is an Australian sketch group and YouTubers. They made their breakout at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Rumor has it, they are gaining big attention in the United Kingdom.
Let your mind wander, as these three wonders, wander through the skirts of reality, making you wonder, what's going on. "Haven't You Done Well 3"

It Took Him to Get ready for summer

One man is taken through his memories of spring

Another man unstores his memories of summer

It Took Him (changing poem)

It took him to spring that far away land
Where dreams cast by stars were always at hand
The smallest delights somehow became grand
Endless tomorrows were at his command
-
Here kisses would rain far more than he planned
And passionate flames were easily fanned
As flowers of love were set into flight
Their reason has left yet they understand
-
Such memories made without a demand
The seas up ahead seemed smooth and bright
Yet somehow he’s blind to his human plight
And soon he will feel things start to disband
-
Those things of his youth will vanish from sight
The fears of the old begin to ignite
What specter is this which clenches him tight
A shadow unknown with grief to expand
-
Then from his garden comes his ray of light
The scent of jasmine to return things right
There as he rested for his future fight
It took him to spring and kissed him goodnight

(A poem which starts with one rhyme and ends with another. This time we're addressing a man and time. - Yes, that is me. The first is a picture of me when I was on my college's fencing team. The joke is: At my first tournament I was looking as "every girl's dream". In my first match, I was retreating and tripped over me own feet. I landed on my tailbone and was in so much pain, I couldn't continue. The worse was yet to come. At my next fencing practices, my instructor had a hard time not laughing when he saw me. The second picture is a much older me. I became a big egotist. After all, I had accomplished so much. To counter my egotism, I served coffee and cleaned the tables at masonic functions. The joke is: My willingness to serve put me in higher regard among my fellow masons. "The great Martin is serving me coffee!" Oh well. I tried.)

Here's to memories: Joe Girard "It Was A Very Good Year" sung by Frank Sinatra

From spring to summer - From sentiment to laughs

The longest place name in the world is Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, a hill in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.  About 438 miles away, in a place called  Greymouth, New Zealand lives Leigh Hart (That Guy). Leigh is a  performance artist and owner of Moon TV, a New Zealand television comedy show. In the latest episode, Leigh gets ready for summer. (In September?) He visits his storage locker to get a few things. A few things, like memories. Memories which are source of laughs. )
Get ready for the unexpected. "Get ready for summer"

The Rain Came to When It Rains In L.A.

After years of sunshine the rain came to a man

After years of drought the rain came to L.A.

The Rain Came (free form poem)

When the rains came
Who knew the weight of it
There were no clouds to explore
-
Just sudden sounds
Heard in the distance
Upon the fields were flowers use to dance
Next to the river
Which flowed into the ocean
Of endless possibilities
Who knew the weight of it
-
There is no warmth to it
Nor feeling of cold
The truth of it there are no feelings at all
That it should come to this
The rain which came
-
Confusion offered soft shelters
And reasons to hide
From the vast unknown
There were no clouds to explore
-
Turning toward stars
Whose richness filled my memories
There by the river
Whose ocean was the coming rain
Who knew the weight of it
-
I’m sorry

(A free form poem calling to the rich rain that comes after the sunshine to wash away what was. Note how the words and lines of the first stanza are repeated. Memories, warnings, heartbeats... - Arlene's death. The loss of a loved one. Performing so many funerals, I know one thing. Everyone faces the loss of a loved one differently. I can only speak from my experience. I'm sure, all those funerals had an effect on me and how I stood when the rain came. Arlene is dead. It was hard to believe; hard to accept. I can't tell you when Arlene stopped talking to me from her bedroom or the kitchen.  I really heard her. Time was another challenge for me. Sometimes it slipped away, even as I watched. Sometimes hours were seconds. I could relive an entire evening with Arlene in the heartbeats it took to sit down. I was surrounded by memories. Everything around me was alive with Arlene. It was a wonder, I could function at all. Through the mist another person, which was me. made Arlene's funeral arrangements. I was so certain and confused at the time, I don't know if anyone assisted me. For the three days of Arlene's viewing, even seeing her sleeping in her coffin, I couldn't accept her death. Did I cry? Did something pull a cover over me to protect from this moment? But what can one do; what can one say when a time in our life (as full as it was) is over?)

I shared Arlene's death, but there other passings that bring the rain:
Blonde Redhead "The Dress"

From rain to rain

Did you know the average raindrop falls at 7 miles per hour? The only problem with this useless fact is: what constitutes an "average .raindrop"? As most of us know, California is going through a severe drought. Hollywood (the home of actors) is in Los Angeles. It is predicted, by 2016, bottled water will replace soda as the number one packaged drink. Put these three together and it might explain L.A.'s inhabitants reaction to rain, as captured by BuzzFeed Videos.
Rumor has it the cost of umbrella operation training is sky rocketing in L.A."When It Rains In L.A."

My Princess Sleeps to I'm Not A Princess

A lover serenades his princess off to sleep

A princess explains why she is not a princess

My Princess Sleeps (Shakespearean sonnet)

Where does she stroll when sleep sweeps her away
Whose face awaits her there to take her hand
What melodies did we neglect to play
Will wonders there still be at her command
-
All day it seemed she wove our make-believe
Enchanting and enhancing every while
What sacred songs were left up in my sleeve
Such magic lovers’ hearts it would beguile
-
Sleep on my princess ruler of my heart
Enjoy your moments as you have blessed me
What strains remain to keep us two apart
For soon I’ll close my eyes and there you’ll be
-
And in the morning sunlight’s tune will stream
We will rise to continue with our dream

(Just your ordinary love sonnet. Ordinary, unless we take into account that each line of the first stanza is a question. These questions are carried over in the third line of each stanza. Did we also notice that each "What" lines has a music overtone? - I was really blessed to meet Arlene. My music teacher, Mr. Land, arranged for me, and some others, to do the male parts, in a musical put on at a girl's school. So it was, at the rehearsals of "Once Upon A Mattress", Arlene and I met. Arlene taught me how to dance. She was a great proofreader, which would would help in my English classes, my radio commercials and when we helped young people get into college. She was very talented with fabrics and helped me pick out clothes, to make me look my best. Cooking and housework were things that fell in my area. Still, I felt Arlene contributed more to our partnership. Dream? Arlene and I were fortunate to have a world open up to us. People gravitated toward us. In our 20's, it was the party scenes. In our 30's, we had children who could read before entering kindergarten, and upward from there. In our mid 40's, we had a second chance at our 20's. We weren't world travelers, but saw a little of America (in remarkable ways). We spent most of our travels exploring California and each other. For lovers, there is a world to discover (if you know what I mean). I enjoyed messaging Arlene to sleep. We all know how the messages started. Eventually, Arlene made her evening messages a relaxing and enjoyable experience. And so it was, my princess went to sleep.)

For this fantasy we add, for your enjoyment: Mike Oldfield "Women Of Ireland"

Want to learn more about princesses

If someone were to ask you, who is the top princess, what would you say? I'm sorry Princess Diana, but according to Time, the most popular princess is Elsa, from Disney's "Frozen". How is this possible? How much do we really know about what it takes to be a princess? We are fortunate that a princess expert has come to light. Meet Jo-Jo (Joanna) who explains to her dad what it takes to be a princess and why she is not one.
The question is: what will Jo-Jo's dad do with the information. "I'M NOT A PRINCESS!"
(YouTube hints that Jo-Jo became a princess.)

Whispers Of Dream to Piff The Magic Dragon

The whispers of a dreamer when the lights are turned off

The magic of a dreamer when the lights are turned on

Whispers Of Dream (poem)

Don’t you hate it
When the lights go out
And the only name echoed in the darkness
Is yours
-
So berated
A wondrous new path
And the only words that they can say
Where are you
-
Overweighted
With things that don’t work
And the only hope of resolution
Dreams that are yours
-
What about you
Who do you turn to when the lights go out
Who will hold your hand when you enjoy
Who shares whispers of dreams all our own
All our own
-
For them it is you
You will they turn to when the lights go out
You will hold the hand that seek out Joy
You will whisper to them of dreams all their own
All our own
-
So they’ll state it
When your light goes out
And the only name echoed in their darkness
Is yours

(This looks like a free form poem. On closer examination, a structure will appear. Don't put this poem down when you come to the end. There are a number of ways to take the final stanza. - As one would imagine, there was a great deal of stress associated with my accomplishments. Accomplishments people would share long after. I put a lot of planning into my efforts, including anticipating and planning for the "what ifs" that came to mind. At some point, events go into free fall and we hope we've covered the unforeseen. I remember one time I booked the "Chinatown Special" to take two bus loads of guests to Reno. The "Chinatown Special" was a tour line, out of Chinatown that had entertainment on the buses to make the trip seem shorter. I forget why I was the last to walk into the hotel I had booked. Imagine, when I walked in, all the guests were sitting around the lobby. I was told there were no rooms for us. Before any event I would find a secluded place to kneel and talk to the Lord. Early in my 20's when I was learning to enjoy the weight and release of my stress, my hands would break out in rashes and sometimes crack. Just being with Arlene offered a soft breeze of fresh air. Sometimes there came a darkness. Hence the poem. Back at the hotel. It was true. We had no rooms. I showed the manager my confirmation. He made a few phone calls and sent free refreshments to everyone in the lobby. Within an hour, rooms where made available, there and in nearby facilities. Plus: dinner and breakfast, at the hotel was free to all of us. This is the same trip that I lost an elderly lady. But that's another story.)

So we can catch our breath, our selected song:
Thomas Bergersen & Merethe Soltvedt "The Hero In Your Heart"

Now the magic of another dreamer

Do you know Erik Weisz? You may know him better by his stage name, Harry Houdini. And he was not born in Wisconsin, as he claimed, but in Hungary. Piff is really John van der Put. And he is not really a dragon, but a human being, but we could have figured that out ourselves. Piff the Magic Dragon sounds better than John van der Put the Magic Human Being. He is really from South East London and is assisted by Mr. Piffles, the "World’s First Magic Performing Chihuahua", who is really a chihuahua. Piff. is a magician and comedian and one of the youngest members of the prestigious The Magic Circle.
For his fist trick, a British magician was on America's Got Talent, and upward from there. "Piff The Magic Dragon: Piff Uses a Piece of Toast for a Cool Trick - America's Got Talent 2015"

Victims Of The Mist to She speaks fluent American

Two lovers lost in the mist of love

A young lady lost in the mist of a foreign language

Victims Of The Mist (English sonnet)

It saddens me that I must break your heart
And draw life’s painful vale on all of this
Our dreams of love forever just dismiss
We met too late for our romance to start
-
Yet not to air the truth would be remiss
We are not cowards who from trouble dart
There is a grace to how we choose to part
And let this grace be our enduring kiss
-
I cannot say the words you long to hear
For if I did I also lose your trust
Another victim of the mist of life
-
But as we part please know I’ll feel each tear
For our goodbye forever is a must
For I am bound forever to my wife

(That love sonnet was a bit different. It is carefully worded to not give a clue of what was really going on, until the last sentence. If this sonnet had the desired effect, feelings of sadness and confusion should have all been transformed in one line. This was an example of using poetry to toy with feelings. - This was a wish of an earlier me. It was in my drug days (not that drugs had anything to do with this). Arlene and I had been married for some time. I was off, playing pinball, as I often did after work. I had just left a farewell party for Karen, a coworker who was going back to Michigan to be with her parents. She came by, unexpectedly, at my favorite pinball joint, to say her final goodbyes to me and offered to drive me home. When I realized we were on the Bay Bridge, my drug clouded mind whispered to me, something was wrong. We were leaving the city. I was being kidnapped. Karen had planned a fantasy for herself and I was part of it. She had booked a luxury hotel apartment with all the amenities using finances she got from her rich dad. At any point, I could have been that "dream husband". Even worse, I called my boss, the next day and disclosed the truth (I was that good of a worker, that my boss covered for me). So for two days, Karen and I engaged in sex. I still remember. in my moments of rest, how the guys at work used to boast about how many times they would "make it". The truth is, after so many times in a row, "making it" got painful.  Time arrived for Karen to catch her plane and she let me go. It was amazing, Arlene took me back, without saying a word. About a month later, I got a letter from Karen. It simply said, "Thank you.")

How about a song with a sentimental flavor: Santana "Samba Pa Ti"

One more mist

Although Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system, it has the shortest days, lasting 9 hours and 55 minutes. What does Jupiter have to do with a young girl being good at American? American, for those who don't, know is the language spoken in the United States. The young girl in question is the up and coming vloger and YouTuber, Kristy Ryan of Our Third Life..
What does Jupiter have to do with a young girl being good at American? Simple. But let's let Kristy explain. "She speaks fluent American"
(Spoiler Alert - Kristy is a very intelligent vloger and actor.)
