The Wanderer to Memory Loss
A wander follows a memory calling from his heart
An accident victim follows a memory calling from a "friend"

The Wanderer (Italian sonnet)

Upon a lonely road he heard her weep
A sound a song a movement in the air
Some memory his heart rejoiced to reap
This wanderer beyond all worldly care
-
She cried and yet a tone of hope was heard
Some Joy some peace some moments meant to last
It must be her for whom his soul once stirred
This wander from somewhere in the past
-
And as she sobs a something draws him on
To what to where to ending far unknown
For him there is no night to greet the dawn
This wanderer who travels all alone
-
Her sighs awoke the meaning of his day
Her cares her smiles her wondrous dreams to roam
Upon this lonely road he now must stay
This wanderer now wandering toward home

(In this sonnet we have a man; "This wanderer" and his love. As the poem goes on, we hear a song in his heart as she calls to him. Each quatrain ends as we are returned to the wanderer. Thus we have a structure in a form. - I was, pretty much, a loner. Arlene could have given her heart to someone better, relationship wise. During our early dating years I always had other girls on the side. Few would get too upset about a teenager having more than one girlfriend. Looking back on those days; Arlene wasn't stupid. As good as I was, covering things up, surely she knew what was going on. Surely it must have hurt a lot. And yet she waited for me to return, so she could have me all to herself. It wasn't that I didn't care about her pain. I just didn't think about it. In all, there were 5 relationships before Arlene and I were married, We were married in 1974. I was faithful for two years before I wandered back to my misguided ways. (I covered this in a previous edition, but briefly:) One evening, after work, I was out drinking with these two ladies. Two ladies who had plans for me. I was about to engage in every man's dream. They took me to a place they had rented for the evening. Just as I was about to enter, I heard a call in my heart. It was Arlene. I rushed straight home to be with her. I would never cheat  on her again. In keeping with our "open style" of poetry: I turned into a pretty good husband and father. Decades separate me from that thoughtless wanderer. Yet his exploits still haunt me, this wanderer now wandering toward home.)

Here is a song about another wanderer: Johnny Cash and U2 "The Wanderer"

Here is another wanderer with another memory problem

False memories are why it’s easy for witnesses of a crime to remember things that didn’t happen, without even being aware of it. All they need is for someone to suggest that it could have happened, and the seed of a false memory might be planted. With this in mind, let's watch a video created by BuzzFeed Video. A person just had an accident that effected his memory. A "friend" has come to his side to guide him back.
Is it just me or is this video funnier once we find out what is going on? "Memory Loss"

So long as the memory of certain beloved friends

A Time To Dance to Stormirooper Longboard Race
Lovers wait for a time to dance
Meanwhile stormtroopers take some time to longboard

A Time To Dance (Shakespearean sonnet)

There will be time enough for us to dance
To dream with you and love renew once more
And kisses cause our hearts to pause and sore
Another turn to dip in our romance
-
There always will be one more lovers’ tune
A guaranty how close you’ll be to me
To gaze in eyes of starlit skies and see
The angels on the sidelines sigh and swoon
-
I know for now we drift on distant clouds
The storm that came this time to claim will pass
And tears will gain their whirl of pain alas
For this short while our ballroom hides in shrouds
-
Till morning breaks in new and lasting song
Sleep now my love and soon I’ll be along

(A Shakespearean sonnet plus. If one takes a closer look, they will notice some word wizardry going on, For instance: "...with you and love renew..". This poem is stuffed with extra rhymes. Then there is the meaning of the poem. There are a number of ways to take this sonnet. - When it was time for me to go to college, I had to leave home. My mother didn't think education was that  important. Into the  picture came Mr. Ogletree, a teacher and a friend of Mr. Land. (Mr. Land was a teacher who looked after me all through my schooling.) Mr. Ogletree let me live with him and his wife until I found a place of my own. Mr. Ogletree's wife was very beautiful, but very sad. Mr. Ogletree was a very busy man. I saw more of him at school and at church, where I sang in his choir, than I did at his home. His wife, shared with me Mr. Ogletree's constant promise, that there would be time for them to be together once his work was done. Imagine: a married lady sharing her problems with an 18 year old boy. She waited. I'm not sure what happened. I found an apartment in the Tenderloin. Mrs. Ogletree died. Mr. Ogletree went to live in Atlanta, Georgia, where he and his wife met. I learned a lot from Mr. Ogletree. No matter how busy I got, there was always time for Arlene, Amor and my kids. So there we have it. Three messages behind the poem.)

Let's go with the happier flow: Armik "Tango Flamenco"

Ever wonder what Star Wars storm troopers did for fun

The Imperial stormtroopers, of Star Wars fame, were the evolution of the clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic. Even these warriors like no others have their time off. Ever wonder what they did off camera. So did Scott David Winn. of ScottDW. Now Scott was able to capture, for us, this rare video footage. Thanks to Sctt Winn, armed with this information, we can the hit at the next Star Wars convention.
And if we're not, blame it on Scott Winn. "Stormtrooper Longboard Race!"

There to If Black Friday Were A Movie
A moment; It's there forever a lover resides
A movie; It's there forever a Black Friday resides

There (Shakespearean sonnets)

He’s there amid the star and hope filled sky
The stranger who shares secrets with the wind
What dreams has he on which one can rely
What promise does he hold that won’t rescind
-
He’s there amid the silence of a song
The stranger who takes lovers’ hearts away
What dreams has he that keeps his spirit strong
What promise lightens each so doubtful day
-
He’s there amid the wishes and the tears
The stranger who so long ago was him
What dreams has he to settle new found fears
What promise calls him back to time so dim
-
It’s there they shared a lasting kiss goodnight
It’s there the last time he would hold her tight

(It looks like a Shakespearean sonnet. In fact, it follows all the rules. Though I didn't title this as such, it is actually "Word Wizardry". "Word Wizardry" is when we use words to work for us. In this case, I've used the same words to start each line of the quatrains and did the same, to a lesser extent, in the rhyming couplet. All this was done, while conveying a picture, in a way that "Word Wizardry" does dominate the poem. - Although this is a love poem and I loved Arlene a lot and we fashioned a lot of great memories. Although my current wife, Amor, who now rules my heart and gives me purpose to go on one more day, she wasn't the motivation behind this poem. I used love themes to replace one of the moments that makes me me. I used to visit people in the hospital. One of these people was my Masonic mentor, Robert Theodore "Jake" Jackel. Ironically, it was Jake who taught me the value of these visitations. On this occasion, Jake took me by the hand and with a warm smile told me he had only hours left to life. He thanked me for everything and for coming. I was there with his family and friends as he was passing and we celebrated a great man and a rich life. It was a strange situation. One only Jake could come up with. Here was a person who had lived a full life.  Neither he nor his guests were sad for this moment. How could we be, with so many wonderful stories? And so Jake passed on. I had the honor of performing his funeral. And so it was. A moment burned into my existence. Live that kind of life. Thank you, Jake)

Back to the love theme and: Mario Frangoulis "I Will Wait For You"

So much for memories made - Now for yet to be

The Biggest holiday sales happen on Black Friday. Sorry to disappoint you. Stores have and are increasingly starting to release deals in waves, before and after the Big day. (per dealnews). So Black Friday may become a thing of the past. With this in mind, it might be a good idea to immortalize Black Friday with a movie. That may be what the folks at BuzzFeed Video had in mind (or maybe just to rouse a laugh or two) when they came up with the inspiration to set the days of Black Friday into a movie like "Happy Gilmore".
If BuzzFeed's idea seems a bit like "Happy Gilmore" it is just a coincidence. (Or is it?)  "If Black Friday Were A Movie"

Life’s Sea to Family Thanksgiving
A lover is thankful for a wonderful life
A family is thankful for a perfect Thanksgiving dinner

Life’s Sea (Shakespearean sonnet)

With you I shared the riches of life’s sea
Each day you blessed brought wonders to explore
Your eyes were windows to eternity
Your touch was whispered ways to distant shore
-
Such dreams were cast along our crystal isle
This paradise with rainbows in its view
The song of flowers fashioned every while
With waves of feelings which I never knew
-
It seems the storms were always miles away
Or maybe you could warm the bitter rain
Those sands of time which harbored a dismay
Were washed astray by kisses’ sweet refrain
-
So for the tides of Joy I freely drift
I thank you for this very precious gift

(There you have it. A standard Shakespearean sonnet. Wait a minute. Who exactly is the speaker thanking? "Your eyes" and "Your touch" make us assume it is another person. And it very well could be. But what if they are metaphors or symbolism? - I want to take this opportunity to thank you. I don't consider myself a poetry teacher, even though I do share some elements of my poems. I do this as a Thank You for all that I have learned reading writing and comments, some if which might nave been yours. All that I have achieved was with the help of others. People who believed in me. People who supported me. People who guided me. People who were the stars reflecting on the sea of possibilities. Consider this: Why can so many relate to the words that I lay down? Consider this and accept my Thank You.)

Let's go with the love theme and enjoy: Agron "Love My Soul"

Who's up for learning to prepare the perfect Thanksgiving dinner

There are 3 places in the United States named after Thanksgiving's traditional main course: Turkey, Texas; Turkey Creek, Louisiana and Turkey, North Carolina. There are also 9 townships around the country named “Turkey". You can take this useless fact and share it at the family's Thanksgiving dinner or you can enjoy a special recipe by famed chef Giada De Laurentiis. What do mean by that, Martin? Is your family a bit talkative at family gathers, like Thanksgiving dinner? Chef Giada has the perfect meal solution. One that tastes good and wont hurt anyone's feelings.
If its too late for this Thanksgiving. I have armed you with a useless fact. "Family Thanksgiving with Giada De Laurentiis"

Forever Never to Chicago Sanitation
What is it calling just beyond forever's door
What is the rut of Chicago television

Forever Never (Shakespearean sonnet)

Somehow the world he knew had changed this day
He wanders through the realms of what or how
For answers which his reason won’t allow
What was it now which calls his mind to stray
-
What was it which was eating at his soul
Its nature or what purpose did it weave
Destruction or some pleasure to conceive
And with it gone did something fill the hole
-
It felt to him some answer to a prayer
A flip-side to a long unwanted coin
To share the fate of mate forever join
A sacrifice for evil something fair
-
And so it was the world had something lost
And their forever never was the cost

(Here is an interesting use of the sonnet form. We use the standard sonnet form. I have chosen the Shakespearean sonnet. Instead of a "love theme", I tried to lead an imagination off. Thus we have a question which weaves a question. - (Before I go on, I want to make it clear, this is just one example, There might be others.) Have you ever faced a decision, a fork in the road in your life? Particularly when life seems upside down. This happened to me at least five times and each time I became a different person. It was September 1, 1984. I was bouncing my one year old son on my knee. I was high on marijuana. I had been stoned almost every day for the past five years. I was one of those people who give marijuana a good reputation. I was so good that my boss, at Chevron, gave me eye drops and encouraged me to use breath mints, to cover up the fact that I was stoned. I was a remarkable worker. (I was one of those who marijuana made better.) On this day (Sept. 1), I asked myself, "Is this the kind of father Peter (my son) would want?" Right or wrong, I stopped using drugs that day and have never used them again.)

To go with this poem, I've selected: U2 "Unknown Caller"

Now let's go to Chicago, again

Next time that you zip up your pants, remember Chicago. The zipper was invented there in 1851. Does the name Dick Wolf ring a bell? He is the television producer of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. It is rumored that someone has whispered a "new" idea into his ear. Considering the successes of his other 3 shows, why not recycle ideas and backdrops? After all, why ask the television viewers to be too imaginative?
It worked 3 times before, why not a forth time? The possibilities are endless. But first (or forth): "Chicago Sanitation"

Moon-drops to Wizard Cops
The magic of moon-drops
The magic of wizard cops?

Moon-drops (lyrical poem)

I’m gazing past my windowsill
At moments there which linger still
Each moon-drop lights another thrill
Which carries me away
Away
-
How could a heartbeat even try
Those moments etched across the sky
Which moon-drops’ magic did apply
Soft meaning of my day
Away
-
It’s you it’s you that fills the air
And weaves a dream within my soul
My trust in treasures to control
And spread your season everywhere
-
My memories will never set
On feelings which are dancing yet
On kisses moon-drops gently let
To heaven lovers stray
Away
-
It’s you it’s you unending song
Each moon-drop thoughts of you revives
Forever you my all contrives
This Joy I’m drinking to prolong
-
So moon-drops fill my windowsill
Belief in magic to fulfill
With one purpose to instill
To carry me away
Away with you

(More words waiting for a song. Any songwriter, in need of some lyrics, is welcome to them. What are "moon-drops" you might be wondering. I would tell you what they mean to me, but that would set up limitations to ones imagination of "moon-drops". Suffice it it to say, when language limits your thoughts, go beyond. - The person who lived a dream now finds himself in hard times (physically). My wife and partner, Arlene, passed away in 2002. Though I was in mourning, I was still heavily involved in charity work. I was also a major figure in San Francisco's 4 Masonic youth groups. Even though I held a youth protection certificate, which includes a thorough background check, the Masons thought it might look better, for my image, if I had a girlfriend. So Amor came into my life. I fell in love again. After a year's courtship, we got married. We had an unbelievable two years as a married couple, before I got sick, (Now the poem.) One of the symptoms of my illness is depression. My neurologist is constantly trying to prescribe antidepressant medication for me. I tell him I don't need them, because I am married to Amor. It is true! Whenever the slightest whim of depression thinks of entering my world, the mere thought of Amor puts an end to any drop of sadness. Thanks to Amor and Amor alone, I am able to enjoy the moon-drops.)

Here is a great song for "Moon-drops".
It is interesting because it can evoke a myriad of moods:
Rusalka "Song to the Moon"

Let's take the magic a little further

During the period of the historical "witch hunts" we hear about the women who were persecuted. Men, wizards were persecuted also. Talking about witches and wizards, they are everywhere. From Comic-Cons to Harry Potter conventions. From Dungeons and Dragons to the World of Warcraft. Who polices them all? In to the picture comes Corridor Digital's Wizard Cops. Men and women dedicated to use their powers to maintain a semblance of order to the world of magic and to issue a few tickets.
Look out criminals. There's a new face on the streets. "Wizard Cops"

The First Kiss to Awkward Commercial Kiss
A poem of The First Kiss
A video of an Awkward Commercial Kiss

The scene of The First Kiss

The First Kiss (Shakespearean sonnet)

The evening ended with a final tear
Who knew such happy days would come to this
For her his smile more precious than a kiss
She never dreamed his farewell she would hear
-
So sad a night when her tomorrows died
As by her window to the stars she prayed
That tear would find his heart not merely fade
And for this wish all else was swept aside
-
The next day was like all those days before
And all her friends they knew she missed him so
As one and all to windows they did go
You must see this then came their Joyful roar
-
For all her dreams and wishes waited there
And there it was their first kiss they would share

(Here is a challenge, use a sonnet to unfold a tale. After all, there are only a limited number of lines. In this sonnet, I've started with the conflict and eased out to the happy ending. I've discussed before, that adding peace and conflict to a poem can raise its effectiveness. - The poem is somewhat true. It started when Mr. Land, my music teacher, got me an audition in a musical at Star of the Sea, an all girl school. I got the part of Prince Daughtless in the musical "Once Upon A Mattress". During the rehearsals I met Arlene. She was the pianist in the orchestra. We became good friends. Friends, that's all. Days passed and we were all happy. Imagine, a bunch of boys loose in an all girl school! Happy!? Well all things have to come to an end. The end of the last night of the final performance and the beginning of the poem. Arlene and I said our final goodbye. She was crying and a tear dropped on my right arm. The tear which, as legend has it, started it all. We had had good times together for almost a month. Even that night, when Arlene and I said our goodbyes, we never kissed each other. That wouldn't happen until the next day, in front of her school, in front of her school (Arlene's friends, who had gathered at the windows.))

Broadway's version of overture to musical where Arlene and I met:
Mary Rodgers "Once Upon a Mattress"

More kissing?

When you kiss someone for the first time, you get a spike in the neurotransmitter dopamine, making you crave more. Dopamine can also make you lose your appetite and make it hard for you to sleep. Since we, who like to kiss, may have a hard time sleeping we might as well do some cleaning. A good product to help us clean is Clean and Go. It just so happens that BuzzFeed Video is working on a Clean and Go commercial. There is only one problem. Kissing.
Funny, kisses from my wife helps motivate me to clean. "Awkward Commercial Kiss"

The mouth is made for communication,
and nothing is more articulate than a kiss.
Jarod Kintz
Tale Of Tears to Adele - Hello (Parody!)
Tears of sadness bring on transformations
Phone calls of madness bring on laughter

Tale Of Tears (poem)

Tears across the dreams which were our sky
Tears replace the streams of days gone by
Tears now fill the themes of music’s sigh
Tears of joyous gleams all turned to why
-
Shadows fill the streets of one more day
Loneliness awaits to dim the sun
Sadness drinks in moments now undone
Tears now answer why she went away
-
Messages on phone but none are hers
Friends concerned if I am still alright
Strangely I had vanished from their sight
Tears of madness in my being stirs
-
Darkness was my empty destiny
Promises of shelter from my pain
Seasons of confusion to make plain
Tears delusion blurred my knife from me
-
Through a window all my senses flew
Timeless were then minutes I there knew
Different the things I thought were true
Tears had brought a rainbow to my view

(This poem starts out with tears, as we learn of a relationship that ended. As the poem progresses the rhyme scheme changes as the speaker's mind wanders. What began as verse with one rhyme, becomes two rhymes ending and bring back the tears (at the end of each stanza). Just as the poem turn life threatening, the uniform rhyme scheme returns with the message of the tears. The added lesson of this poem is: Think about using the poem's construction to help convey the message(s). - I can still remember that time, long, long ago, when Arlene broke up with me. I was going to college at the time. I was a young, attractive guy, with plenty of girls aggressively going after me. Even now, I wonder what was going on in my head. I was ruined. My whole world had come to an end, even though my friends and teachers all gathered to comfort me and potential dates were vying for my attention. It wouldn't have taken much. There wasn't any need for me to suffer. Unlike the pom, I couldn't or wouldn't see the message of my tears.)

To go with this theme, I found a great song: Jervy Hou "A Breathtaking Piano Piece"

How can a person turn misery into laughter - Let's find out

Did you know that approximately one out of four injuries by athletes involve the wrist and hand? With that out of the way,  let's turn our attention to Adele. This edition has nothing to do with famed singer. With that out pf the way, let's turn our attention to Key of Awesome's parody of Adele's hit "Hello". In this version Adele, or Rachel McPhee playing her,  finally ends a relationship on her terms. But she's still not happy about it. Why?When we get this out of the way, we can turn our attention to how to make money in Las Vegas.
What is remarkable, even with all he laughing, "Hello" is a great song. "Adele - Hello (Parody!) Key of Awesome #103"
(How to make money in Las Vegas? - Get a job.)
