Her Dark Friend to Melisandre at a Baby Shower
What shadow keeps this lonely soul going
A husband invites a shadow o his wife's baby shower

Her Dark Friend (Shakespearean sonnet)

She walks amid the silence her dark friend
Who softens her reminders of the pain
To give her soul a season to pretend
And leave it to another to explain
-
She doesn’t want her tears to see her cry
To fuel what slumbers in her memory
Some strain still hissing there for her reply
Some poison yearning burning to be free
-
She sees a world which promised so much more
Now clouded in the mist of make believe
Which knocks upon another stranger’s door
Another stain upon another’s sleeve
-
What sadness sets a dream so far away
This something which a friend just wouldn’t say

My attempt at a Shakespearean sonnet in goth style. The sonnet is so bleak it has no offsetting (conflict) stanza. What is interesting about this sonnet is: although there is no real resolution, our minds create some form of hope out of the rhyming couplet, when there is nothing really there.

An ode to Jennifer. Just before my son, Peter, was born, I had reached the pinnacle of my weirdness. People were uncertain of my sexuality. My fashion was out there somewhere. I wore dangling earrings (one). I dyed my hair. I was really the sight to see. All this while I worked at the Chevron headwaters. It was here that I would run into Jennifer.
Jennifer was a young attractive goth girl. I was attracted to her solely because she was interesting to me and being seen with her rounded out my look. There was nothing more between Jennifer and me. Perhaps my limited interest in her was why Jennifer allowed me into her would. She was fascinating. In my whole life, I have never met a person with so much bad luck. Jennifer didn't like close relationships. Her beauty attracted boys who would treat her so poorly that she stopped dating when her last boyfriend went to jail. Hr mother died and her father became an alcoholic. He kicked her out when she turned 18. Her brother and sister no longer talk to her. What really fascinated me about Jennifer was: with so much bad luck, how did she find the strength to carry on? Out of the ashes of day to day meaningless existed arose this beauty. Or was it all an act?

How about a song for the mood: Evanescence "My Immortal" performed by Lindsey Stirling

Game of Thrones - Baby Shower?

In the middle of the 1900s, baby showers became a way to help a growing family with the financial burdens of a new baby. Speaking of baby showers, Melisandre is a fictional character in the A Song of Ice and Fire series of the fantasy Game of Thrones. She is a priestess of the Lord of Light and a close adviser to Stannis Baratheon in his campaign to take the Iron Throne. She is also a friend of TV host Seth Meyers That's how she got invited to Seth's wife's baby shower.
It should come as no surprise to anyone: Never invite anyone from Game of Thrones to your baby shower. "Melisandre at a Baby Shower - Late Night with Seth Meyers"

Imagine to Peanut Butter Chocolate Robot Balls
Imagine a scene where two lovers meet
Imagine a robot cooking your favorite desert

Imagine (English sonnet)

Imagine a dream to make all things whole
To give every heart a reason to be
A season for hopes which dare to be free
A path where a wish may enjoy a stroll
-
Imagine a kiss from some fantasy
The kind even time would learn to extol
To burn away doubt exciting a soul
This sweet memory he’s waiting to see
-
He’s waiting for her where day turns to night
Where daydreams and starlight begin to stir
-
He’s waiting for her somewhere beyond sight
Where purpose to live don’t even occur
-
Beyond the last morning’s reason for light
Imagine a love he’s waiting for her

An English love sonnet. Other than the two quatrains beginning with the word "Imagine" and the first two couplets beginning with the word "He", this sonnet seems to just take us on a dream. Ah love. Then on the final line the words "Imagine" and "He" finally meet.

What is this thing called love? I am an old man and my wife may be a little younger than me, but she is up there, yet we still share a dance in the fields of love. Love is a doorway to a place all its own. A place away from all problems. A place of warmth and comfort. A place where time has no meaning. Love is a dream, always true. A dream  of a song that touches our heart. A dream, a fantasy,a fairy tale more real than the air we breath. A dream that can only be quenched by that precious someone  that makes us complete, that makes us more, that makes use forever. Am I getting a little carried away? I'm sure there are some more carried away than me. Imagine my wife, Amor, and I sharing one more dance, one more time. A couple  who found each other beyond a door, a dream. Joining one more affirmation, wonders do exist.

What would a love poem be without kissing? So: Fermo Dante Marchetti "Fascination"

How about some sweets to go with those kisses

Hans Moravec, founder of Carnegie Mellon’s RoboticsInstitute, predicts that robots will emerge as their own species by 2040. One may find this insight a little scary, weird, strange, off the wall, unbelievable, yummy. But our friend Gregg, at You Suck At Cooking, is working on a robot that knows how to cook. What this machine does with peanut butter chocolate balls ill amaze you.
The future of cooking is here. "Peanut Butter Chocolate Robot Balls - YSAC (ep. 33)"
(Okay. Maybe this robot needs a little work.)

Romantic lovers require from each other
at least the facade of reason: We desire
to be what romantic love makes us appear
in the other's eyes. We want to imagine we
are deserving of the love we inspire.

Fancies Flowers to Sara and her friend Jennifer Lopez
In life's garden two lovers meet
In a young girl's room two friends meet

Fancies Flowers (repeating poem)

One wayward way awaits another day
A meadow made for two young hearts can play
A place where holding hands for hours
Fancies flowers
Midst such rain
-
Two lovers longing by the lofty tide
Of passion’s passing pulses try to bide
Their time in kisses which were welled inside
A place that puts a pause to powers
Fancies flowers
No restrain
-
Three wishes wonder waiting patiently
For faded frolicking to cast them free
From timeless torment trapped so helplessly
While lovers laugh they have no need you see
A place still tilted toward love’s towers
Fancies flowers
Still maintain
-
Four seasons sweep so softly passed their eye
As they create uniquely custom sky
Which other lovers colors may apply
Their souls’ unspoken need to fly a sigh
While daring dreams to try to drift on by
A place where sharing shades warm showers
Fancies flowers
One refrain
-
Five senses sets us sailing on our way
To place our paradise and there reside
With countless kisses cast so carefully
From wells of love which will not ever dry
As long as simple love song’s of lasting strain
The need which fancies flowers to explain
A place where holding hands for hours
Fancies flowers
Midst such rain

Let's have some fun with Word Wizardry. We knew there as word play ahead with the first sentence ("One wayward way awaits another day"). We find more plays with consonants and sounds as the poem goes on. Each stanza is numbered. The numbers are used to form a love related sentence. Then there is the word "Fancies". It is a play on the words Fancies, or Fancies', or Fancy's, or...

As we can tell by this and the many love themed poems I write, I am a "fool for love".And why not? Love can be fun (put aside the occasional heartaches). I could give example from my life, but the wouldn't be as meaningful as the ones we hold in our own hearts. We lovers touch upon a fantasy realm, whether we want to accept it or not. I would like to share this. I am old and love. in many ways is different from the times of my youth, and love is still fun! Stranger yet, it is no less of anything. Enjoy love. Revel in it. Delight in it. Live in it. Dream in it. Believe in it. Love will not let us down. I am a "fool for love". You?

Since we are on a love theme: Vargo "I Love You"

From the garden if love to the room of friends

The first computer programmer was a woman. Her name is Ada Lovelace. This might help to explain why women are so complicated. To help give some further insight, here are America' favorite teens, Sara (with no H) and Gloria. I know they look like Jimmy Fallon and Jenifer Lopez (JLo), but let's put that aside and focus on the complexity of womanhood.
If you think we're gonna learn anything from these two, then I have a bridge for sale. "'Ew!' with Jennifer Lopez"

The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for you, not knowing
how blind that was. Lovers don't finally
meet somewhere. They're in each other
all along.

The Picture to The Revenant Featuring Bob Ross
A young man finds a strange picture
Artist Bob Ross paints a strange picture

The Picture (free form poem)

Lying in the sand
Was a picture of once was
Calling to the wind
Echoes of before
-
There was something strangely spoken in it
As a young man picked it up
Falling to its charm
Calling to the wind
Echoes of before
-
In his dreams streamed scenes familiar
It was the picture come alive
Dancing with his imagination
Casting welcome wishes
Calling to the wind
Echoes of before
-
Searching for some meaning
He shared the picture with some friends
Who looked upon the faces there
And sadly sacrificed a tear
Calling to the wind
Echoes of before
-
They saw the truth scented in it
Two lovers taken from each other’s arms
His voice as he cast his fate to the sea
The picture close to his heart
Calling to the wind
Echoes of before

A free form poem that uses a repeating phrase. It starts out with only four lines, building up to six, giving the illusion of approaching. The repeating lines act as a floating memory. In the case of this poem, a haunting memory.I think this poem works best if read out loud, So, have some fun.

When one gets my age, pictures, memories of one's long ago take on a special meaning. A meaning beyond sentiments. A meaning beyond the golden times. A meaning fuller than "I miss those times", seasoned with the heartbeats of "was that really me". I apologize that my words fall short. We surely sense what I'm talking about. It;s there. Captured in our images of long ago. What is remarkable, that something even touches those close to us.They see the image of long ago. Something is touched off in them. Something from their perspective of a moment, a time. Then we see it in their eyes. The truth of it. Vintage moments. Vintage memories.
In the poem, we have a young man who finds a picture. The picture sets off a chord in him. He is unsure why. He takes the picture to his friends, who remember something. Without a word, the young man senses something. With this let our imagination come alive and drift. Enjoy.

Now that I've finished rambling, how about some music: Harry Nilsson "Everybody's Talkin'"

Ever wanted to learn how to paint

For some reason,  U.S. News and World Reports rated Yale as America's top art college. It doesn't matter. Robert Norman "Bob" Ross didn't go there anyway. Bob was a well known American painter, art instructor, and television host. He was best known as the creator and host of The Joy of Painting. Unfortunately he died on July 4, 1995. Bob's style and personality was so beloved that, in many ways, he lives on. The folks at Above Average studios, being Leonardo DiCaprio fans, wondered what it might be like if Bob Ross painted the outdoor scenery of DiCaprio's movie "The Revenant".
Okay this may be a little sick, but it's funny. "The Revenant Featuring Bob Ross"

Layers of Love to Weird Drive-Thru Menu
One may need a menu to delve into this couple's love
One may need a menu to figure out this menu

Layers of Love (lyrical poem)

Two tiers of love
She’s right above
The very best
-
Two tears of love
She’d write words of
The pang and zest
-
To bear our hope
She there would cope
With all the rest
-
To bare our hope
For their fine scope
To stand the test
-
There was always love whenever she was near
There was all this hope she sparkled in the air
So with all dear hope she makes it very clear
To be with her love now this her only care
-
Too new of trust
Their ways so mussed
This was her jest
-
Too knew of trust
It weighs robust
She did invest
-
Together with trust a lover’s point of view
We will build a love so precious and so dear
Arising from hope in all the dreams we’ll share
Unshakable hope young hearts will see us through
Unbreakable love to which we can adhere
Unmistaken trust in hope and love this pair…
Now declare
Love hope and trust
Love hope and trust
Their life is there

Word Wizardry turned to a lyrical poem. Look at the verse portion of this poem and the word play stands out (tiers - tears, right - write) Note how the meaning of the word "knew" is forced, for the sake of the poem.. The keys to the three verses are brought together in the coda (Love, hope and trust).

As always, if you are a songwriter in search of lyrics, help yourself. I do not ask any financial payment for the use of these words, only a copy of the song.

Love. We poets love it! It is very complicated. It is "the simplest thing of all." It changes from day to day, It is eternal. It is different for every individual, yet it is universal. And me. I'm a fool for love. I have been through, I have seen the magic, the wonder of it, Oh sure, scientists and psychologists may have their proofs that love is just a natural chemical reaction. But as I turn the pages of their endless theses, I "know" there is something more there. "You crazy lovers." Yes that's me! Simple or complex, it all merges in a kiss. Two lovers strolling, hand in hand; We don't know the nature of their love, yet we know what they're going through. Love. We poets love it!

How about a love song: Julie Andrews and Andy Williams "Language of Love"

If you thought love is confusing...

The first drive-thru restaurant was created in 1947 by Sheldon "Red" Chaney, operator of Red's Giant Hamburg in Springfield, Missouri. One of the most important things about a successful drive-thru is the menu for the customers. The people at Honda approached the people at BuzzFeed about coming up with a new ad for the 2016 Honda Civic. Naturally the people at BuzzFrrd turned to the idea of a drive-thru menu. Not just our average menu, but... well... watch the video.
Try to remember, in between laughs, (strange as it may be) this is a car ad:. "Weird Drive-Thru Menu Prank // Presented by BuzzFeed & The All-New Honda Civic"

A Simple Date to Every First Date Ever
A couple enjoy another perfect date
But how do they all start

A Simple Date (Shakespearean sonnet)

And so my dear the hour’s getting late
So good of you to stay with me awhile
To share our tears and mix them with a smile
And make a lifetime of a simple date
-
It started as a morning spent in style
Which led to afternoon of youthful play
Remember how our hearts would lead the way
To evening wishes kisses we’d compile
-
Here in the twilight still so much to say
There in your eyes there’s still so much to see
We sampled Joy and all that’s yet to be
Tomorrow’s promise of another day
-
For now just go inside and wait for me
I’ll be there soon to spark eternity

A day converted to 14 lines. Did we notice all three parts of a day (morning, afternoon and evening) are worked into the stanza? All in all a nice sonnet. But wait, Could the Simple Date be alluding to much more?
Another example of a poem with more than one meaning,

Maybe it's just me, but I like to do a bit of planning for my dates, I know, from my experience, there comes a time when all dates go into free fall, and all our plans are put to the test. In a lot of ways, life is like a date. We come face to face with destiny: Whether with tat special someone, a job interview, a child's birthday party, a funeral speech and the day(s) and plans go on and on.
I'm from the school who believes in life after death (here on earth), I also believe in letting others believe what they choose. Heaven or not, it is scientific fact that every cell of our body goes on as something else. A bit more subtle, we all have in our power to create art, memories, things, ideas and much more, that will live on long after we have passed. An interesting example of this is: Have we ever had someone come up to us and say, "Remember when?" (The computer and our mobile devises add a whole new level to this.). In short our essence (not to be confused wit soul) goes on.
So we have our Simple date. For after all, what are we? One individual among billions of individuals. All inhabiting one planet in one solar system among "billions" of solar systems. Yet, somehow we matter. Somehow we are allowed to experience this, Some of us are blessed to share this date. Or maybe it's just me.

To go with this theme: Lou Reed "Perfect Day"

And we thought we had a messed up first date

Ever hear of, "Love at first sight"? Studies indicate this may have been written by a guy. Guys are more likely to fall in love based on a girl’s appearance, while girls are more likely to be drawn towards a guy’s behavior. Ian Hecox, Anthony Padilla, of Smosh, studied couples on their first date (or just had a few ad dreams) for a week or two. After going over their findings with the finest minds, in a neighborhood bar, came up with this conclusion. They don't know anything.
But since they made this video about first dates, we might as well watch it. "EVERY FIRST DATE EVER'"

The fine art of Life is to make
Another Soul vibrate with a song of joy.
Edwin Liebfreed

Dream Of Wonders to Frog Prince Trick
Why a lover doesn't dream in his sleep anymore
A magician in a park brings a dream to life

Dream Of Wonders (English sonnet)

I do not dream of wonders anymore
The realms of fantasies have left my sleep
No longer tales forgotten do I reap
This prince has sailed away from misty shore
-
There are no unknown rendezvous to keep
No yearnings for a time which was before
No wishes drifting idle to explore
These things no longer wait my rest to sweep
-
Yet one would ponder why I do not cry
No dreams in sleep to set one’s mind astray
What do I have to keep my hopes in view
-
Still greater edge of mystery have I
As sleep concludes one more amazing day
What wonders wait tomorrow’s dream of you

Just an average English sonnet. Average, unless one notices the word "No". In the introductory stanza there is only one "No". In the main conflict stanza every line contains a "No".. In the first triplet, where the speaker teases us, we are back down to one "No". When we find out the key and solution, in the final triplet, there are no "No"s.

I guess I'm looking for some affirmations or maybe I'm really living "the dream". I was never financially rich but my life with Arlene was better than any dream (except in dreams I can fly). My life with my present wife, Amor, is unreal. Any problem I have is washed away in laughter. She is up there, in years, but still very pretty. And get this: As she admires her beauty, in the mirror, she tells me that she is beautiful because of me.Wow!
I have gone on and on, in this and previous editions, about living dreams. I realize, I was fortunate to have a creative job; to have an oil company and the Masons behind me. Sure, I was not rich in everything, but what is important to me. Now, ask anyone who sees us together and they'll tell of a dream, Amor and Martin. I am not the only one. Others live dreams too.
I guess I'm looking for some affirmations. I can't remember the dreams of that young fellow. I do recall (vaguely) that summer morning I woke up to the realization that the greatest dream of my life was there at my side. From that moment my dream was better than any dream (except in dreams I can fly). Sure, it took time to learn how to let go to this new found gift, When I met Amor, she was amazed that there were other dreamers. We are not the only one. Others live dreams too.

Meet another dreamer: Antoine Dufour "To Run in a Dream"

Well "good morning" - I guess we're ready for the Frog Prince

In earlier versions of the "Frog Prince" the frog slept in princess's bed as she agreed at the pond, but in later versions even a mention of a bed was cleared out of the story because Grimm’s didn’t like the idea of unmarried couple in bed. Today, even the question about kissing a frog poses problems. So how is magician Rahat Hossain (Magic of Rahat) going to get princesses to kiss a frog and transform him into a prince?
Seeing the trick and the ladies who participated, I would have done the trick backward. "Frog Prince Trick"
