My Guiding Light to Shaquille O'Neal and Carbonaro Prank
A lover returns to meet his dream
In the midst of magic a fan meets his dream

My Guiding Light (story poem)

I know that she is waiting there
Her heart-breath song now fills the air
My thoughts of her spreads everywhere
Unfathomed shores which love can span
-
My thoughts of her my guiding light
Imagination’s trails ignite
Each thing she does I hold here tight
This fantasy is my delight
-
I rush again to meeting place
Where dreams are made and passions race
And time moves at an endless pace
To follow stream where wishes ran
-
But there beside familiar tree
No sign of lover do I see
What bleak dark shadows covered me
There was no way that this could be
-
Just then warm kisses tears defray
As lover sprang from hideaway
Surprises which would grace our day
In moments how it all began

Nothing too special about this poem, It is simply a playful lark. I say "too special", because we notice that the rhyme scheme seemed to go off on the second stanza On the fourth stanza the strange rhyme returns. The poem ends with the new rhyme and the rhyme pattern becomes clear. This was done to hint something going on.

Yes, Arlene and I had a special tree. It is by Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park. The tree became special to us as we would visit Stow lake, rent a boat, walk the paths, watch the other lovers and watch the day go by kissing by our tree. Sometimes, when we argued Arlene and I returned to our tree and the place two young lovers met to kiss. It was a safe, peaceful get-away, escape from all the world's problems.
Perhaps we all have our "tree". A place to run off to. A safe haven, where two hearts can refresh. We are told, sold there is no such thing as magic. Sure we can explain what we see on some stage. Or, we can sit back and enjoy. So it is with relationships. We can analyze why or how they work, or we can sit back and take in the wonder of it all. Sometimes the world is just too noisy, too confusing to take in the treasure(s) with which we are blessed. This is where our "tree" calls to us. It doesn't have to be that singular "tree", as we all know. For some, the shade from the world's problems, could be a get-away, a dinner, a dance, a movie, let imagination go. For some there are different "trees" for different challenges. There are even some who can't hear their "tree" calling. But we, the lucky, the blessed,  treasure our rendezvous and enjoy.

A touch of romance to go with the poem: Kathleen Battle "Lovers"

Shaq is back to give a fan a heart attack

Originally, two teams of 9 players made up a basketball game, a number that was based on the standard number of players on a baseball team. Speaking of basketball, imagine a big fan of Shaquille O'Neal finally getting to meet him. Well, Shaq is big. The fan actually isn't that big. Now, imagine playing with that fan's mind. Now, imagine asking that fan to stand up to Shaq,
Imagine no more. Just watch, "The Carbonaro Effect - Shaquille O'Neal and Michael Carbonaro Prank an Unsuspecting Fan"

Speak To Me to Woof (dogs speak their mind)
The sound of a lover's voice brings comfort
The sound of a dog's voice brings laughter

Speak To Me (free form poem)

Speak to me in softness
Speak to me of distances we climbed
Moments mended from a dream
Things that never left undone
-
Speak to me in seasons
Each more stunning than the last
Blessed with sun and cleansing rain
Blossoms hiding signs of ground
And the wounded footsteps
-
Speak to me in marvels
Mountains echo out our names
Heights that chances’ risk attained
Passion pulsing heartbeats
We did it
Together
Speak to me in this
-
Now when the shadow
Cast its fog amid our once familiar streets
Clouds of confusion doubt and uncertainty
Dark corners seldom known before
Teasing us with comfort
-
Speak to me in promise
We met one day and fell in love
A marvel in itself enough
Would grow into the storybooks of many
Dancing in the street
Now blanketed by shadow
Leaving us
Here alone
Together
Speak to me in this

A free form poem with a hidden message. Most of the poem expresses the beauty and comfort that flow from his lover's lips. If one notices, all but one stanza begins with, "Speak to me...". Here is the hidden revealed. The one line where these words are missing, is the conflict stanza. In other words, hearing, listening to his beloved soothes, washes away, brushes aside all discomfort.

I'm not sure when and how I became a good (not great) listener. I do know Arlene had a great voice (to me) and wonderful dreams. Turn the music down low and listen to my beloved, that's how I liked to top off a day. It wasn't just in romance. Arlene and I were just different enough to get along. Therein layed the power of the Arlene and Martin team. When it comes to individuals 1 + 1 can equal so much more. So it was when Arlene and I lead the PTA, volunteered as coaches, got involved with Masonry, raised our children, shined as volunteers and so much more. Then there were the bad times. I listened to Arlene and she listened to me. Then, as a reward of a job well done, I got to listen to Arlene telling me how wonderful things were.
I'm certain, we all share in my experience, at one level or another. Arlene were as special as the rest of us. I was simply affirming what we already knew and enjoy.

While we are contemplating this, let's enjoy: Gary B "Bitter Sweet"

Studies show dogs naturally like to play keep-away better than fetch. We need to train our dog to play fetch, but not keep-away. That's what studies say. But what do dogs have to say? What? You can't understand your dog because your dog only barks. Mark Edward Fischbach, known by his YouTube username Markiplier, has come up with a solution.
Why don't dogs do this naturally, we may be asking. The laughter of watching this video, may give us some clue? "WOOF"

Echoes Through My Heart to The Force Awakens Lego
What is the force that flows through a lover's heart
What is the force that awakens lego

Echoes Through My Heart (Martin verse)

Another echo beating through my heart
Another kiss awaits to play its part
Each whisper ushers in another start
Each golden smile is like a lover’s dart
-
Each moment with her one more sweet refrain
Where fantasies of heaven fell like rain
Here in this moment always to remain
And leave it to another to explain
-
It’s you it’s you the meaning of my heart
This carefree time within a summer’s rain
Where memories were destined to remain
And ways of worries find no place to dart
-
Another kiss to echo this refrain
Another destiny must play its part
Each whisper seems to have another start
Each teardrop holds a reason to explain
-
Surprising how eternity does dart
And where a special ending finds its start
A dream forever that was forced to part
Another echo beating through my heart

A full explanation of a Martin verse can be found here: Martin Verse – A Poetic Form. What is unique in this Martin verse is stanzas one and four. Notice how they begin with same words on each line (the pattern). How different the world, in the poem, is about to become. The fourth stanza is like a connection between was and what is to be. This poem is entrenched in metaphor.

This poem was inspired not only by the loss of my childhood sweetheart, but the loss of a way of life. I had (almost) everything. I lived a dream that others could only hope for. Now, it is all gone. All but the memories. All but the moments. People and I could cry over the drastic change. But there is a "kiss". A kiss of a life well lived. An "echo beating through my heart."
Normally, it is not advisable to live in the past. We should use our past as a stepping stone for the now to  prepare for what the future holds for us or what we hold for it. All we really have is the "now", and even that is colored with illusions. Imagine the "truths" of yesterdays and the fantasies of tomorrows. Was Arlene's kisses really that good? Was our dance together that grand? I think so. My memories say so.  My heart beats so.
I'm certain many of us have similar feelings. Think back. What good things do we remember? What blessings do we want more of? Not just for us, but for our light and those who are warmed by our light. And in the darkness of our times there will shine the bright light of our smile. An echo of our memories. A bright echo singing out,"Here is one who knew and treasured how to enjoy."

To go with this theme: Dave Grusin "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter"

What force sweeps us from the sublime to the ridiculous

Lego began in the workshop of the Danish carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen back in 1932. The word  "Lego" is derived from the Danish phrase leg godt, which means "play well". How many of us were (are) Lego fans? As we know, Lego's latest product come in the Star Wars motif. How many of us are (were) Star Wars fans? Wouldn't it be great if there was a Lego Star Wars movie?
The folks at HISHE (How It Should Have Ended) have heard our prayers. "The Force Awakens Lego HISHE"

And There’s The Why to Human Pokeman Battle
A man battles with the why she left
Two opponents battle each other poor souls and laughs

And There’s The Why (poem)

She sailed away another day
My life she put in disarray
And oh such tears were on display
Why did she go she didn’t say
-
My mind drew blank I couldn’t see
Friends did their best to comfort me
Such loneliness such misery
Why did she go how can this be
-
I’d think of her and start to cry
And then the endless trails of why
And just before I thought I’d die
Why did she go I’d sit and sigh
-
Amidst the time I let it go
But even then time moved so slow
A weary smile began to show
Why did she go don’t care to know
-
And when again my dawns were new
Then she again walked into view
She hoped we’d start it all anew
Why did she go I wish I knew

For now let me share this poem's form. If we look closely we will find the rhyme scheme follows the vowels: A, E, I, O, and U. What about ",,, and sometimes Y"? That's the same question that can be found in the title ("And There’s The Why"). Take a look at the fist word of the last line of each stanza. Ta da!

"And There’s The Why". That title, with this poem, takes on two meanings. There the Y (why) of the vowels and the "Why did she leave". I'm not sure if we picked up on this, but the very first line is a bit light hearted. The guy's girl just left him! Sure, as the poem goes on, he shows sadness, remorse and confusion. In time he infers, he got completely over her. After it all, she walks back into his life. We don't know if they got back together. Confusing relationship. Then there's "Why did she go don’t care to know". Don't care?! Which may lead some to cast more blame on him. But in this poem. all we have is him. There are some who would say, perhaps there was something wrong with the girl/ (Today's world.) I might have spent a moment or two to see what I did, or may have done wrong. Maybe it was just the relationship or the time. The truth, the why, is: We don't know. We are left with one more of life's "Whys". And so we hear it call to us. From the sunshine of another day. Enjoy.

Yes, there is a beautiful "she left me" song: Julio Iglesias "If You Go Away"

If we thought that was maddening...

Japanese anime films and television shows account for 60% of the world's animation based entertainment. One of these anime is Pokemon. In this series humans, known as Pokémon Trainers catch and train creatures to battle each other for them. What if these creatures were humans? Leave it to the sick puppies of Smosh to find out, and worse yet, to share their finding with us.
My wife likes to play Pokemon (Poke-e-mon), but that's a different story. "HUMAN POKÉMON BATTLE (POKÉMEN)"

Footsteps’ Course to Karate
A lover battles remorse as he follows his footsteps
Three girls battle evil as they take anime to heavy metal

Footsteps’ Course (Martin verse)

A silence guides my footsteps’ course
Her calling kisses were the source
To be without them brought remorse
So I was captive of a force
-
We fell in love mid summer’s flow
In satin dreams where flowers grow
Enticed on streams where delights glow
What happened next we do not know
-
Spent day by day on lovers’ course
And day by day we felt love grow
Each footstep’s moment left its glow
As we embraced our wishes’ force
-
The summer days would feel night’s flow
Jealous confusion spread its source
A trusting love saw doubt’s remorse
What happened next I do not know
-
We fell upon some unknown force
Its passing brought me dread’s remorse
A stream of crimson was its source
As silence guides my footsteps’ course

Another Martin verse, a form I developed in 2010. One of the things that makes Martin verse so dramatic is that the first and last lines can be the same. In this Martin verse, I upped the aunty by repeating the last line of the second stanza in the fourth stanza. Notice how the same words take on a whole new meaning. What happens at the very end, I leave up to our imagination.

In this poem, we meet a fellow who fell in love. It sounds like, in the beginning, everything was going pretty good. In the end something happens and love dies. Let's stay in the world of sanity. Though we are individuals, for most of us love begins the same way. We become like the birds, in spring, trying to attract our "mate". Then we seal the deal or celebrate our success, by taking the glories of love to the next level. I may not have drawn an accurate picture, but I hope we can agree with this glorious time.
"A crimson stream..." Someone or something died. Again, let's stay in the world of sanity. For better or worse, we are humans. Humans have this habit of getting used to things. And so, one day, many of individuals wake up and something has died. Many of these are not even aware that a world had changed. Some are faced with remorse when they realize what they have lost.
With this in mind, let us not relax in an environment where we "get used to it". Did we kiss today? Did I tell (or show) her or him how good looking they are? Where or what are we looking forward to? Sounds simple, but these are effective. I'm sure we all have ideas of our own. I bet, we didn't see this coming, when we read this poem. Keeping our love fresh and alive requires work. But it is work we can, will all enjoy.

Hold everything - News from Japan

Anime, or Japanese animation began around 1917 with the oldest surviving film: Kouchi's "Namakura Gatana". Now in 2016, anime is more popular than ever. Into this picture steps Babymetal and their latest hit "Karate". Babymetal is a Japanese metal idol band consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal", Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal". The band take advantage of crowd's love of anime with a light heavy metal flavor. If one listens carefully, one will notice a Kodo drum style in the drummer's beat.

Crazy Fairy Tales to The Good Dinosaur
Lovers put aside their fairy tale dreams
How good can a dinosaur be

Crazy Fairy Tales (English sonnet)

Let’s put aside those crazy fairy tales
And live our lives within reality
There are no silver linings to our sails
We do not travel on a crystal sea
-
So cast aside their dreams stored in your head
For in the end will they explain the pain
Or try to reason with the tears we shed
Their dust for us is grounded by the rain
-
It’s time to leave our childish world behind
And build our future on a sounder ground
Where sails of gold will come to see us through
-
Let’s take this boring life and be resigned
To face our truth and make our ground resound
By teaching fairies what we pixies do

Boy, talk about a boring sonnet. Boring until the end. Those, who have become familiar with our style of writing surely sensed something was afoot. No, there was no metaphor or Word Wizardry used. Understandably, I tried to take out as much playfulness as possible. I hope the effort was appreciated.

Okay. let's put aside the "fun" side of this sonnet and look at the message it carries. It is no secret, that I believe there is an element of magic to this life. I choose to allow the "make-believe" into my life. I don't force this on anyone, not even my wife. But I'm sure that during my golden times, I gave people causes to check their realities. But I am just one person; One individual; One grain of sand in this paradise. One individual's view of "heaven" is not the same as other individuals'. I'm not talking about life after death, but here and now. What some may find uninteresting and boring, others may find exciting and worth dedicating their life to. I like raspberry pie. Get the picture? I do not believe in forcing one's beliefs on others. If someone would like a piece of my pie, I am willing and happy to share and listen to any stories my favorite pie might evoke. Given the freedom to follow our own dreams. To go after those things; Those experiences; That existence which makes us happy. Us! Not what others say is us. Not what others say will make us happy. Let us put aside other's fairies and be guided by our own imaginations and enjoy.

To help us see to that goal: Bing Crosby "Young At Heart"

Who knows more about dreams tan Walt Disney

The basic Crocodylia body form has been around for more than 180 million years, making alligators and crocodiles living dinosaurs. Speaking of dinosaurs on November 10, 2015, Walt Disney Studios released its animated feature "The Good Dinosaur".  The story is set on a fictional Earth, in which dinosaurs never went extinct. The film follows a young Apatosaurus named Arlo, who meets an unlikely friend while traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape. Although this Disney feature has been out for several months, it remains quite popular, grossing over $317.6 million.
As a teaser and to see how long the film can maintain its popularity, Disney has turned to YouTube with shorts like this. "The Good Dinosaur - Arlo And Spot Eating Old Wine Fruit [HD1080i]"

Lovers’ One More Time to The People Vs Kanye
What was the crime that sets a lover crying at her window
What was the crime that got Kanye West involved in a court case

Lovers’ One More Time (lyrical poem)

Come out
Reveal
Pled a lover at her window
A moment in a meadow
A dream upon a pillow
-
I can’t
For fear
Came an empty reply
Curtains darkened the sky
While tears searched for why
-
In a darkness she crept
This victim of a broken heart
Covered with shame
Hiding her pain
Battling just one more time
-
Reveal
For me
Continued the lover’s song
A scent winds blew along
Refreshing seasons gone
-
Silent
Nothing
Answering the heart that day
Some may come and some may stray
What mornings come to light lost way
-
In a darkness she wept
This treasure of another’s heart
Echoes her name
Steadfast remain
Hinting end to a crime
-
What should she do
Wishing she knew
Lost and confused
Tattered and bruised
Come out
-
Come out
Nothing
At a slowly opening door
With not a clue there to explore
As two stranger search evermore
Govi

A lyrical poem? It looks like a free form poem. Wait a minute...! Hold on a minute. First off, free form poems can be lyrical poems. Some of this poem rhymes and some of it doesn't. The purpose in this was to cause ab air of confusion. We are brought into a picture as two lovers reunite. It is now up to us to fill in the myriad of unanswered questions. (Or is it important?)

Much can happen to lovers, in the heat of passion. Sometimes the passion of love can blind a person. Causing us to hurt. Causing us to act irrationally. Causing us to lose control. Sometimes these steps into the realm of insanity are manifested in little things. Sometimes they can be grandiose, even dangerous. This is a side of love we rarely talk about. Could this be what happened in the poem? Sometimes the same love that brought two people together, can be the source of its own destruction. Strange. Even the beautiful rose has thorns. In our song, the lovers decide to go on. In one line, we see a truth. Love can be a strange paradise. A source of pleasure and pain. One of life's, time's many wonders. What are we to do? Enjoy.

While we are left to figure it out, here's: Govi "Serenade D'Amor"

If we thought love was hard to figure out - look to the West

FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” is proving itself a major success. According to Nielsen’s “live plus-3” the series is now ranked No. 1 among all Tuesday series, with 7.42 million total viewers (based on the season's second episode). The series is so successful that it has (supposedly) caught the attention of Kanye West. Coincidentally, Kanye's recent antics has caught the attention of American Crime Story.
Solution... "The People V. Kanye"

Love is an untamed force.
When we try to control it, it destroys us.
When we try to imprison it, it enslaves us.
When we try to understand it, it leaves us
feeling lost and confused.
